Stevie & Tom 1981 dates?
 

Does anyone have list of dates & places from the concerts that Stevie joined Tom Petty on stage on his tour in 1981?

I know she played with him at Gator Growl in Gainesville, FL which is the University of Florida's big homecoming event. I don't know the exact date offhand but it was sometime in Sept/Oct. I have a newspaper write up somewhere, if I can find it I will post the date.

I was expecting maybe 4 or 5 dates, I didn't realise there were that many. But could these be a date missing from that list? This guy is selling concert pics on Ebay from Stevie & Tom from what he claims was a concert at Cal Expo, Sacramento, but he doesn't have a date.

The first real concert I ever went to was Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. September of '81, at Cal Expo (home of California's State Fair). It was festival seating, so my friend Fredzo and I stayed out in the 100+ degree heat all day so we could be near the front when the gates opened. Bottled water hadn't been invented yet, and the crowd got so big that we eventually couldn't even individually go get a drink because we wouldn't be able to get back through the crowd to whichever of us was holding our spot in line.

So we gutted it out. All day. In the California sun.

It was all worth it once the concert started. They'd thrown a tarp over the race track and erected a stage in the middle, and we were about 25' from center stage. As he did today, Tom opened up then with American Girl. We yelled. We cheered. Stevie Nicks came out to do 2 duets with Petty--Stop Draggin' My Heart Around and Insider. I still have the pictures I took with my 110 camera.

I've been trying to put dates on concert pictures (comparing Stevie's outfits and hairstyles)
If the Ebay guy is right, then these should be pictures from that Sacramento concert.

I think the shots of Stevie in the blue wrap & Tom in the crosshatch shirt are from the Forum (don't forget the Forum, where they recorded INSIDER & NEEDLES & PINS for Petty's live album four yrs. later).

October 2, 1981 - Lakeland FL (Lakeland Civic Center) - Stevie was not at this show.
