Interesting. I really like Gwen Stefani, btw. She's fun, gorgeous, and seems really down-to-earth. She also shares a birthday with Mr. Buckingham. And her little son has Stevie's birthday. How cute...and totally random.

You know, when I was in college, I watched General Hospital and I liked Jack Wagner on GH. So, it was very interesting to me when I went to a concert of his and he played Never Going Back Again. He also shares Lindsey's birthday. I like them both. Jack is obviously a fan of Lindsey's (he said so at the concert. He said Lindsey, Neil Young and some other guy). And they have the same birthday. There must be some scientific power at work!

Funny. I know I share a birthday with John Lennon and PJ Harvey and I adore both. The notion that it had anything to do with sharing a birthday was inconceivable, but they are really two of my favorite artists ever.

I share my birthday with Jennifer Beals.

What a feelin'!

And the similarities don't end there:

-Stevie and Gwen are brown-eyed blondes.
-Stevie and Gwen both have had enormously successful solo careers outside of their bands.
-Stevie and Gwen both have ex-lovers in their bands.

And both are extravagant dressers with a penchant for (similarly) dramatic poses.

I don't like Gwen Stefani at all ever since she went solo. I would like to see a Tori Amos Vs FM or a Bjork VS FM better :blob2:

Love Gwen!!! I wondered if there were any Mac fans that like her too. I agree pretty much about her solo work though. She's much better with No Doubt. And the best news is they're back in the studio right now working on a new CD. I can't wait (sorry Stevie).

This fight was called two months back in the Remix thread. Christine - holding a cup of tea with one hand and a cigar with the other - could kick the crap out of a corporate shill like Gwen Stefani and No Doubt. Sending Stevie in would just be cruel.

Gwen Stefani creeped me out when she co-opted the Harajuku Girl look for her first solo album. She even "adopted" four young Japanese girls (from an LA talent agency) to follow her everywhere during her promotional appearances, etc. The were told not to speak the press, and even though they all spoke English, they were only to speak Japanese in public. She stripped them of their real names in exchange for their slave names: Love, Angel, Music, Baby. That was also the name of her album. On stage and in the videos, they were treated as expressionless human accessories for the nuclear white Stefani - whose coloring went from light blonde to Whiteout Snow Princess. She's already the star of her own video, but this extreme positioning seems like a representation of the desirability of white women over Asian women.

All she did was reinforce negative stereotypes about Asian women: they are shy, they are submissive and that they are china dolls. Real Harajuku girls are not just recognized for their wild fashion, but also because they reject the mainstream. A number of female Asian celebs spoke out against her marketing, but the media didn't provide them the voice.

On her second single, Rich Girl, she sings about buying stuff.
“I’d buy everything/Clean out Vivienne Westwood/ in my Galliano gown/No, wouldn’t just have one hood/A Hollywood mansion if I could/Please book me first-class to my fancy house in London town.”

"If I was a wealthy girl/I’d get me four Harajuku girls to/Inspire me and they’d come to my rescue/I’d dress them wicked, I’d give them names/Love Angel Music Baby/Hurry up and come and save me.”

Basically, she's on a fantasy shopping spree, buying lavish homes, expensive clothes, and SLAVES.

Stefani was recently in the studio recording a duet with rapper JaRule, who made the news last year for claiming that gay people have destroyed American culture, are the root cause of moral decay, and called for the removal of gay images from TV. He was defending rap music and thug everything else. Stefani chose to go into a studio with this guy and record a song. I'm sure it went something like this : "Oh JaRule, it's okay if you hate gay people and think they're the root of all evil. We can choose to disagree. I mean, I hate black people because you're all stupid and, like, steal stuff. I'm actually kind of afraid you're gonna rape me because I'm a beautiful, rich white woman, but we can agree to disagree and be friends!"

And don't forget that the first single from her last album was built entirely on the music from "The Lonely goatherd" from The Sound of Music with a heavy emphasis on the yodel. She's morally and creatively bankrupt.

iamnotafraid 05-29-2008 10:39 PM

"Morally and creatively bankrupt", wouldn't that describe half of the artist in music today?

HELL YEHH!! I love Tori and Bjork although Tori slightly more as she hits me on a more personal level than Bjork. Have you seen either of them live?
