Silver Springs from 'Uncirculated Rumours'

I think this version was labeled 'Kansas City '77', I can't tell if it was a live stage performance (hence the 'Kansas City') or if that was a misprint on the 'Uncirculated Rumours' back cover. Maybe it was live, but was from a rehearsal. Not sure, but I lost my old cassettes and vinyls forever, and haven't heard this song since. I think it was posted here a few years back, but if someone has it and would be generous to post it again, I'll buy you a box of chocolate donuts.

Ahhh, lovely. Just as I remembered. It's a murky recording, but she tears it up towards the end.

Thank you thank you. Let me know where to send the donuts. ;)

Thank you from me, too. I love these old versions of Silver Springs- so much passion.

If anyone wants to just die, listen to this Silver Springs and at 04:47 you will hear a vocal freak-out from Stevie almost as good as the one she did on the SOTM from the live 'Mirage' video (the one we call 'speaking in tongues').

This 'Silver Springs' is sooo wonderful.

Which one, the Kansas one?

How can Kansas be April 1? The band was en route to Europe on that day. Did they give a concert at 40,000 feet?

I used to wonder the same thing until I heard Christine tell the audience, "we just released a new album about 6 or 7 weeks ago. You gotta start playing these new songs sometime or another."

Thanks Liam!

Instead of chocolate donuts (since those are already taken)...can I send you some bargain priced Easter candy???

Confused----did she come out with Silver Springs in 1975???

and for Petep9000 --- What was Uncirculated Rumours? (What made it special?) It seems like some compilations are named different things throughout the years.

Well, the live '77 one. Whether it's really Kansas or not remains to be seen, but that's what the album sleave said.

Well, it was three albums on vinyl, IIRC. It was just a boot that was circulating, but someone packaged it and gave it a name and included some Stevie photos on the covers. The photos we've all seen before, in fact I think they were mostly 'Belladonna' era- but I think there was also a still photo of WH era Stevie on the carousel pony from IAF.

It was a hodge-podge of different tracks, let's see if I can remember some of them, but this is not all:

'Silver Springs' piano demo
'Silver Springs' live (labeled Kansas City '77)
'Mistaken Love' piano demo
'Crying In The Night' (electric version)
'Rhiannon' piano demo (for the 'Rhiannon' proposed movie, and not the original demo for the White FM album)
'Castaway' demo
'Violet And Blue' (outtake?)
'Forest Of The Black Roses'
'Rhiannon' piano demo (another one)
'If You Ever Did Believe' (outtake? sounds more complete than a demo)
'Smile At You' (I think. My memory is starting to fail me now. If it is on the set, it wasn't the 'angry' version)

I can't remember what else. There were a few more, for sure. Tsk tsk. Anyway, I was at a used record store on Bleecker Street in The Village (here in NYC) oh around '87, and this is where I found the first two albums. The last one I found at a used record/memorabilia swap meet which is where I also used to buy my bootleg stuff. There was no internet back then, so at least for me, the swap meets were great places to find cassettes of rare and unusual Stevie/FM stuff.

Thanks Pete. It amazes me how people like you, is what kept the music alive (IMO). The internet and the change in technology, makes it is so much easier today.

I am in awe of the original tapers as well...and whenever I can, I try to give credit to them, but it's funny because they have such cryptic names.

petep9000 03-23-2008 07:03 PM

Oh thanks Bets, but really there were people who were sooo much heavier into it back in the day. I'm sure David can probably relate with stories of late 70's and early 80's FM stuff and how it was obtained. I'm thinking lots of word-of-mouth and xerox copies of lists circulating about..

Betsy 03-23-2008 07:24 PM

I was the idiot snooping through the bins for Cat Stevens LP's. For some reason they called them *pirate* instead of bootlegs....

My brother, however, was the Fleetwood Mac fan.

petep9000 03-23-2008 08:30 PM

Isn't that funny you just brought up Cat. In '87 or so, maybe '88, I bought one of his old very early 70's albums at one of those used record shops. The one with 'Wild World' on it. What I remember mostly was that I thought he was recorded very well. And that there was some sort of a warmth that came through the vinyl, at least on that tune. I don't I get the same vibe when I listened to the CD. I think definately there is something to be said sometimes for vinyl.
