Saw her on Oprah, don't much care for her...:sorry:

I love her song Bleeding Love, but I do think she's a tad overrated. I heard someone say she's the next Whitney Houston. I don't know about that. I had the chance to hear her album a couple months ago and I felt it was not nearly as good as her single, but I'm willing to see where she goes with her career. she's got talent, for sure, and she seems really super sweet.

Thing is, she's the UK answer to Whitney and like a breath of fresh air here...in the States ...Whitneys are two a penny...I don't expect much enthusiasm from across the pond to be honest.
Good luck to her though.

Yeah... she's probably going to go the way of Kylie Minogue, the Scissor Sisters and Robbie Williams- huge in the UK, barely noticed in the U.S. (outside of the gays, that is). I have yet to see anyone of substance materialize from one of those TV talent competitions. She seems like a sweet girl with a big voice... but I just get the impression that there is no there there. There's just no depth to her at all.

ughhhh... Robbie Williams....don't get me started! Lets just say...I'm glad Take that are only a foursome.(I quite like them)

I kinda get that too, but she is fairly new. it took Kelly Clarkson a while to really develop into an artist. Chris Daughtry is another great artist (imo) that came from AI. I think it's a rarity to find a true artist on a TV talent competition, but I don't think it's impossible. the key is finding a singer who is already an artist and not try to make a singer into an artist. does that make sense?

one thing that bugs me about LL is that every clip I see of her singing Bleeding Love, she does the exact same movements and sings the song the exact same way over and over and over. if you've seen her sing it live once, you've seen them all. maybe she'll grow with that in time.

 no way, other way around! Robbie Williams has it all. I never understood why he didn't make it in the US (I understand why Take That didn't though ;)). I think he's a true entertainer and streets ahead of all the rubbish that does make it in the US.

Oh as a singer, he can def work a crowd, for sure, he has that "it" thing and he's good at it..... but for me it's the cocky, big headed attitude that gets me annoyed, he comes across as arrogent and quite yobby sometimes.. no thanks.

Well, look what happened when she finally tried to be an "artist," i.e., her last critically panned flop album? Now I hear she's back to cranking out those manufactured pop ditties that made her famous.

I just try to imagine musicians that I admire trying to compete on a show like American Idol, and I'm just at a loss. It's all so humiliating, especially the way they are forced into making those "videos," i.e., extended commercials. And the way they are allowed to be berated like that; anyone with integrity and true artistic grit would not tolerate that. Sure, it's good entertainment, but it's soul-robbing nonetheless.

Agreed, but there really is no art about this. You will never see a Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty, Tom Waits, Janis Joplin, Bob Dylan, etc. "discovered" on a show like this. Their objective is to find a "star," not someone who has any personality or a point of view.

Actually that kinda reminds me of this singer whose name rhymes with Sticky Wicks... Hmmm... :p

Apologies :p Yobby as in what sometimes unruly British football fans are called, with loutish behaviour, loud and noisy etc, (I'm digging myself into a hole here, I can see!) I'm not saying he is a yob, but he comes across to ME, as very big headed, brash and arrogent and I can see why, he hasn't made it in the States, quite frankly.

MacMan 03-20-2008 07:11 PM

She's got a really nice voice... I like the song, haven't heard any others so can't really judge... But she'll probably have a long career singing-away provided she doesn't stay sweet and innocent for to long.. People get bored with the sweetness after awhile - she'll eventually need a scandal to spice things up! LOL

To me he comes across as shy and his act seems to be compensating for that.
