Introducing Your Friends To Stevie's Music
Ok...if you had to introduce a friend to Stevie's music, then what song or music video or live recording would you play for them?
I would show a friend the live performance of "Sisters of the Moon" from the 1982 Mirage Tour. It really captures Stevie's intensity and wicked-cool image. |
Has Anyone Ever...
I actually turned a friend on to stevie the night he broke up with his boyfriend...it was christmas eve and he was home alone, his boyfriend was to be with him, but decided to break up with him that day...so I traveled in a snow storm to his house, picked him up and on the drive back, I played him "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You" he cried his eyes out...we went out the day after Christmas and bought the Rock a little cd...
He was also turned onto Kate Bush by myself as well...thru another break up...I believe if you listen deeply to stevie's music...you will be enchanted forever...but if you see her as mindless fluff...you will never understand the true mystical side of her path... |

DJWidow -- How funny that you mention Kate Bush. I'm just getting into her, and so far I love Running Up That Hill and This Womans Work. Along those lines, what can you recommend to download? |
Funny...I recently just got into Kate Bush too! I got her greatest hits at Christmas. Too bad the audio quality needs to be remastered! But she has some really great songs.
I have yet to turn any of my friends on to Stevie...I tried...but nobody takes the time to get absorbed into the lyrics. Everybody just wants to know if she has any popular songs that they would recognize! :( So I end up playing "Edge of 17"..."Stand Back"..."SDMHA"...etc... |
The key to this is finding out what kind of music they like first. ie.:
Rock, techno, country,r&b. ECT. THEN you taylor your stevie mixes around those types of songs. THis is not about what youd like to play for them, its about what would THEY TAKE TO. What are the ages of your friends? what other music do they listen to? what other artists do they like? YOU HAVE TO DO THE REASERCH AND KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE. IT WORKS. I post this like every 3 months, but nobody believes me and trys it. I made my christian friend who believed stevie was into black magic, BLAH,BLAH BLAH, the stevie christian esque mix:angel::lol: and it worked like a charm. it was songs like "touched by an angel" and "unconditional love" ect. they were like "hey nice, she writes about angels and love now, i like this" seriously, these people need to wake up and recognize stevies talent. My country friend got the its late, after the glitter fades, too far from texas, ect. Rock friend, Fall from grace, planets, edge of seventeen, live rhiannons, ect. techno speeks for it self: dreams remix, planets remix, standback remix, ect. Slow and meaningful (im bieng generic, and you know what i mean, too manny to list) they like r&b smooth grooves types of stuff Lead off with classic dreams, then songs like straight back, love changes, how still my love. ect. u gettin the idea? |
