Crying In The Night

Excellent cover of Crying in the Night:

I rather liked that. That was really a cool find David. I also very much enjoyed the female vocal and the sound of the tambourine playing. This guy sang the song well and his acoustic guitar playing was superb.

And not hard on the eyes either. Bravo to him, to play that old chestnut and do it so well.

Why oh why isn't the BN album out on CD or Itunes for everyone to love? Yes, we all have the vinyl, or cassette copies, or CD boots. How grat it would be if other people got turned on to this wonderful old guitar album and Stevie's youthful vocals...it would be like Carter opening up Tut's tomb.

I don't think that's a woman singing, I think its him pre-recorded so he can harmonize with himself.

Chords

It's kind of a pain to extrapolate chord progression from strummed acoustic guitar, but I think these are the ... let's say basic chords. I've put it in G but you can transpose if you prefer.

(Intro) G -- C/G -- Dm/G -- C/G

She was (G) that kind of (C/G) lady
(Dm/G) Times were hard (C/G)
But (G) she could come curling (C/G) 'round you
Like (Dm/G) fingers

But she'll (Am7) leave you
Crying in the (D) night
She will (Am7) leave you
Crying in the (D) night
She's going to (Am7) leave you
Crying in the (D) night
She's back in (Dm/G) town
(C/G) And she's looking (G) around (C/G) (Dm/G) (C/G)

Say you (G) needed someone to (C/G) depend on
You're (Dm/G) all alone
She's the (C/G) only one
(G) Who can come take you (C/G) far away
Take your (Dm/G) breath away

Etc.

I love a good DmG. Even better than an Am7...even better than chocolate!

That was fantastic. His voice works really well in it. It sort of sounds like what the song would have sounded like if the Eagles had done it for some reason.

Yes. If you check out all his other YouTube videos, you can see that this guy, his name is Rick, is greatly influenced by the Southern CA sound -- that whole composite of styles (& similarities) you find in the Eagles & mid-70s Mac & Jackson Browne & America as well as their British counterparts like Elton John. And sure enough, most of his videos are of the material of these writers & singers, dozens & dozens of them.

Rick also does an excellent "Crystal" somewhere up on YouTube. He's a very solid singer, very meat & potatoes, very "campfire-style" (for those of us who went to summer camp). His guitar work (he's self-taught) is accurate & unobtrusive & capable, & his piano playing (lessons) on songs like "Rocket Man" & "Lady Madonna" has many of the same characteristics his guitar playing has.

I'd like to hear Rick, ragandbone/Eliza, & buckymcnix play & sing Fleetwood Mac songs together. The three of them could harmonize on tone! (which doesn't often happen in Fleetwood Mac in live situations) If Mikki ever comes back to the Ledge, she can join that trio & make it a foursome.

See if you can find his "Crystal." I think you'll enjoy it.

I navigated over to his 'Myspace' page. He has a tune playing which I had never heard, but was very beautiful. 'Never Say Goodnight', by Tuana. I would love to hear his 'Crystal', his 'Mother Nature's Son' is excellent too.

I like the fact that these days to be heard you just need to stick it up on Youtube. What an opportunity, 30 years ago what would you do?
