Kudos from Caillat
Colbie Caillat was interviewed on a local radio station this morning, and she said that when she was recording her album, she kept in mind what her dad told her; to make it like Rumours, in which every single song was great. She said that she's only 22, but she loves Rumours. There's not a song on there that she would ever skip over. She continued to praise FM, and Tom Petty, too. Personally, I don't like her music, but some younger people who listen to that station must (they play her song every hour, I swear), and maybe they'll be inclined to check out FM. And by the way, neither she nor the DJ mentioned that her dad produced Rumours, so it sounded like unbiased praise.

That's cool. I think she's pretty good, although I've only heard the one song.

I bought her cd the other day, and I think it's really good. I don't think the single Bubbly is necessarily a good indication of the other songs on the disc, though I do like it. I think the song Magic is really beautiful (you can hear the piano version on her myspace page) and I also like the song Battle. Her music reminds me a little bit of Norah Jones, but not as much of a snoozer. I noticed that she listed Fleetwood Mac as being an inspiration in her cd booklet, and saw that the album was produced by Ken Callait, but the ditz that I am didn't realize that they were related.

From the New York Post:
http://www.nypost.com/seven/11182007...lat_103566.htm Q: Your dad, Ken, co-produced Fleetwood Mac's "Rumors" and "Tusk." Are you a fan? A: I love them. I love a lot of classic rock as well. My dad told me that Mick Fleetwood offered to play drums for my album. Q: You said "No"? Are you crazy? A: [Mick]'s the greatest, but I knew I needed to do this project on my own. |
Oh my, exactly how bored is Mick?

And that's why daddy produced the album? If she could use the Rumoursproducer, why not it's drummer? In the same thought of rejecting the drummer-which is cool in my book- she could have rejected the producer. |

I've just heard the one song, but I think her voice is quite nice.

You know, I don't know anything about her, but I'm happy for Ken. It's an accomplishment for him to have produced something that resonates with the younger crowd. He's still got it!

Colbie Caillat's father, Ken, co-produced several Fleetwood Mac albums, including "Rumours" and "Tusk." That was before Caillat was born, but Mac music was one of her biggest influences. Caillat, 22, who has the current hit "Bubbly" and sold out a concert at First Avenue this month, discusses her favorite Fleetwood Mac tunes. "I love 'Gypsy' and 'Second Hand News.' They bring back really good memories of my childhood and my parents always playing it and us having pool parties. They are just great songs |
