Moon Landing

A co-worker of mine recently introduced me to the theory than we never landed on the moon in 1969. I've been reading some interesting stuff online about. Not really sure what to believe...but I hear they are building some new telescope in 2008 that should be able to put the issue to rest. What do you guys think?

PS...i believe this is my first poll ever on the Ledge!

^^^

Where did you read the stuff? I'd like to hear more....before I vote...

I had a high school kid do a research paper on the bombing of Pearl Harbor....that FDR knew the attack was coming.....

The bibliography was interesting .... (I copied that page and tried to read all the books over the summer.) This was back in 1979 - so this kid was before his time.

Was your co-worker repeatedly dropped on his head as a child?

:eek:I find it hard to believe that men landed on the moon in 1969. It's the only conspiracy theory I believe in, so I'm glad you started this.

I cannot be convinced that the standard of engineering in the late sixties or in fact the electronic/metal/plastic components at the time, were good enough to get to the moon. On top of that, there have been some significant developments in the fields of mathematics and physics since 1969 that also make me doubt that they could have done it at the time. The Nasa scientists had the core Physics principles but so many of them behave differently in space and that was not understood til the mid/late 70s. Without boring you to death with my Phd thesis on Thermodynamics, I just don't believe it sorry............. There was an important political reason for the US to get into space first, given the 'cold war', so they faked it for that reason:laugh:

Now I do believe Lee Harvey Oswald shot JFK and that no 'flying saucer' ever landed in the Arizona desert...........

....I have had a long day in the sun.................

Here is some interesting info...but there is loads more stuff if you Google the topic...

What the hell? I never had any cause to believe the moon landing was a hoax, but I'm going to read up on some stuff now.

Ditto on the flying saucer, but I don't think LHO shot Kennedy. ;)

HAHA...My fiance's brother worked at NORAD for several years and he said he saw stuff that'll make you question a lot things like that. Unfortunately, he can't talk about it in detail.

I think this website provides a startlingly hilarious insight into the cognitive abilities of a person who believes that men never walked on the Moon:

Come on, Stew - we all know it's because they were using alien technology and not our own

Just kidding - but this is a subject that's always fascinated me - but yet one that I've never read up on - if it's a slow day at work today I may change that ;)

i vote monkeys in them suits, because i don't really care one way or the other.

regardless of whether we did or didn't then, we could do it now. so, whoop-de-doo.

true or not...here we are 40 yrs later and I'm not sure I could tell you what good it did.

..........a significant amount of research has been done in space's low gravity environment on genetic sequencing. In particular how amino acids sequence within proteins. This (American) work is a key component in the development of a human genome (DNA) structure that has allowed medical research to advance so quickly in recent years. It has also paved the way for breakthroughs in forensic science and crime detection. Without the US space programme, this work would have taken much longer.

....I'll skip the 50 paragraphs on the other huge advances across engineering that have improved the way you live your life...........cos I'll sound like some nerd.......

.......imo.........the scientific research undertaken in space has been one of the United States greatest achievements................

but see, that's what I'm saying. we never hear that. all we hear is when a space shuttle is launched, when they must make repairs on some orbiting satellite or when a shuttle crashes.

that's because journalism in america is a ****ing joke.

and i say that as a member of the news media.

however many news channels we have... and they all tell the same stories? like there isn't other **** going on in every other city, in every other state? in other countries? no, it's not possible to report every story that could potentially be interesting to someone - and people have to take responsibility for themselves and seek out their own news of interest - but the scope of coverage is very, very narrow.

like, how they're pounding election 08 primary coverage in our face.. despite the fact that MOST PEOPLE don't even bother to vote in the primaries (which is sickening). each channel is so interested in pushing its own agenda through its coverage that they limit everything else to a 15, 30, or 45 second blurb. :distress:
