The Chain from The Dance
OK so, someone has labeled this video as being from "Reunion Arena" September 17th 1997 - which we all know, it wasn't. Annoying enough. Even more annoying is that some psycho on youtube is claiming to have been at this very performance and claiming that Christine was absent from it. So just wondering, anyone care to help me settle and argument and prove some fake-mac fan's wrong? |

The Dance was just amazing in so many ways. Ive been really getting into this again over the past few weeks. I find it amazing how it was TEN years ago. I remember sitting with my mom in 1997 with the stereo system set up and the TV screen on MTV. It was just so awesome. When we got the full concert on tape I was amazed to see all the songs they edited.
The Dance versions of The Chain, Gypsy, and Tusk are probably my all time favorites. |

I'm glad this quickly turned into a Dance appreciation thread instead of entertaining the notions (initially posted) that are so obvious for having no basis of reality.
I saw two Dance shows on opposite sides of the country and both were indeed magical. The Dance video/album are true treasures for the fact that is was the last dance for the band in that incarnation. And for a band so stingy when it comes to releasing DVD concerts and videos, this was special. While I appreciate the muted, more controlled, fuller sound of The Dance -- they do justice to every song -- their sound was so different in years past. When it was just the 5 of them they played more aggresively, giving the songs a different context than the album versions. I always liked to hear how they would adapt the heavily dubbed studio tracks in a living setting. With The Dance -- and backup band -- they were able to get closer to the sound of the album versions. I'm not so sure that is a good thing overall. But still, I love The Dance! |

After hearing bits of Say You Will I convinced my mum to get this on DVD ... The names "The Dance" and "The Chain" were so interesting, they're what caught my attention to begin with.
And the rest, as they say ... ;) |
