Neal Preston or Herbert Worthington - who's better?
Can someone delete the previous thread? I forgot to add a poll...
I hope you guys don't mind me posting two threads so close to each other. I'm doing my job employment training program this week at Marshall's, putting anti-theft tags on women's shoes and stripping the plastic off of new clothes in the back room. A ****ty way to spend four hours a day. Anyway, I recently thinking about all of the various photographers Stevie's had over the years, and I narrowed the two most famous down to Neal Preston and Herbert Worthington. Obviously, Worthington's pictures of Stevie are the most iconic. On the other hand, most of them are just posed "glamour" shots for publicity purposes. Neal Preston's photos tend to be a lot less posed and artificial, more "off the cuff," and even his publicity stills seemed to exude a more subtle, well, "Stevieness" than Herbert's. Unfortunately, he's also responsible for that horrible Clinton Inauguration series, but it's not his fault that Stevie looked the way she did. Maybe I'm just biased towards Neal Preston because I got to see so many of his pictures in high-res. If you're unfamiliar with Neal Preston's photography, go here: http://pro.corbis.com/ and search for "Neal Preston Stevie Nicks" or "Neal Preston Fleetwood Mac." |
Neal, no contest.

i'm fairly familiar with HW's photos, but it would be nice to be able to have a large collection lined up like the ones in the link you posted of Neal Preston.
I'd have to see a long list of both photographer's pics to be able ot judge, but as is right now, I'd say Neal. Mostly because he took my favorite picture of stevie. and no gypsywoman. you dont' really have to go doing 20 posts laced with HW photos. any links will be just fine. |
Edit: Scratch everything I said before. Just looked through Neal's photos on Corbis...yeah he's hands down my favorite. I didn't even know half of those pictures that I loved were taken by him.

Neal. Definitely. His live shots are incredible, and so are all the ones from the filming of various music videos. HW is marvelous in the studio, but for on the scene "action" shots, no one can beat Mr. Preston.

I like both photographers' work. But I'm more fond of Herbie's stuff because his Stevie portfolio is more diverse and spans different eras.

I prefer Neil and always have. HWW takes beautiful photos but most of my favorite Stevie shots were taken by Mr. Preston. I fricking LOVE the photos he took of Lindsey and Leelee, too...those are among my favorite pictures ever of Lindsey. the man just knows how to capture live shots, too.
BTW...does anyone know who took the Oz magazine pictures of Stevie? The one of her on the bed with the dead lamb at her feet......:p and the one of her on her stairs with the reddish/roses jacket/gown/whatever it is called, the gorgeous top hat photo..... The one of Stevie on the bed ranks up there in my top five of Stevie photos...I just love the expression on her face. She is more relaxed than normal and even though she is doing the sexy, serious pout..her eyes are comfortable and sexy. She has a very "come hither" expression in her eyes and I love it. She also doesn't look as posed and the whole photo spread looks kind of spontaneous and "fun". |
I want to update my opinion..Neal Preston takes very AWSOME concert and Candid photos..I really like them..I looked thru every page of the corbis photos...But when it comes to Studio shots Herbert is FANTASTIC

I voted for HWW.
