Corp. Gig "The OpenWorld Festival" - Nov 15th
The OpenWorld Festival
This year, Oracle is proud to present the complete concert experience, in an incomparable atmosphere of achievement and celebration at the Cow Palace on November 15. In honor of 30 years of mutual success, The OpenWorld Festival is a sincere and resounding "thank you" to all of the customers, partners and employees who have made it possible. The OpenWorld Festival is a momentous event centered on legacy and longevity—with timeless legends on the stage, and lifelong fans in the crowd. Billy Joel His flair for melodies made him a star, but it was his fusion of three decades in pop music that made him a legend. With Top 10 hits in the '70s, '80s, and '90s and six Grammy Awards, Billy Joel is an artist for the ages. He has sold in excess of 150 million albums worldwide, and was inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 1992 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999. Prince A year after Oracle's 1977 beginnings, Prince released his first album, "For You." He has been breaking musical ground, earning accolades, and pleasing fans ever since. Over the years, Prince created his own personal brand of intricate and idiosyncratic music, selling more than 100 million copies of his albums and winning an Oscar and multiple Grammy awards along the way. An extraordinarily successful and independent creative force, he grafted together pop, funk, rock, soul, and a dash of folk to create an entirely new entity that would propel him to the top of the charts with 1984's "Purple Rain," where he remained for a mind-boggling 24 weeks. Always a visionary first, a musician second, Prince continues to be fearless in his pursuit of artistic challenges, constantly experimenting with different sounds, textures, and genres. Stevie Nicks with Mick Fleetwood Famed for her mystical chanteuse image, singer/songwriter Stevie Nicks has enjoyed worldwide success since the early '70s. Major hit singles like "Dreams" and "Rhiannon" made her a focal point of Fleetwood Mac, while Top 20 hits like "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around", "Leather and Lace" and "Edge of Seventeen (Just Like the White Winged Dove)" made her a solo star on a global scale in 1981. After founding Fleetwood Mac in 1967, drummer Mick Fleetwood was credited for inviting Stevie Nicks to join the band in 1974, and his influence was essential to Fleetwood Mac's lasting international success. |
I don't get it - are they performing or accepting an award?

It's too bad they're not having this event at Moscone Center, which is centrally located in downtown SF. The Cow Palace, on the other hand, is located in one of the most undesirable parts of town.

Looks like they are performing! Hey having 2 Macsters on one stage is like a major deal !!
|
I think I'd be more excited about Prince.
|
That is a helluva a lineup! And considering the 4-day conference plus "Appreciation Event" is $1950, it's not such a bad deal. I know that in my industry, you would pay more than that for conference tuition alone with zero entertainment. I'm almost tempted to register! And I might actually learn a thing or two...
I guess the big mystery here is WTF is up with adding Mick Fleetwood to the bill? Certainly Stevie could do this without him. And he's not a mainstage attraction like Stevie. I can't imagine Mick would learn to play all of the Stevie solo material like "If Anyone Falls" and "Sorcerer," so Jimmy would probably still be there to play drums anyway. Does this mean that she will play strictly FM songs? Heaven forbid she should trot out solo Stevie/Mick collaborations like "Twisted" or "Sable on Blonde." And who is the bigger diva- Prince or Stevie? Gosh, I would kill to be a fly on the wall backstage. And this is such a perfect opportunity to do a proper "Stand Back/Little Red Corvette" mash-up! Ugh... the mind can ponder the potential fabulosity of this event for days. But the reality is probably that Stevie will just come out and run through "Stand Back," "Dreams," "Rhiannon," "Landslide," "Edge" and "Rock and Roll" and then hightail it outta there... |

And he don't come cheap either. Some Dellionaire here hired him to play 6 songs for his gf's b-day. The price tag? (Dr. Evil voice) One miiiiiiillion dollars! |

How cool is this? Way cool.
The event web site only has a photo of Stevie up there so far. No Prince or Billy Joel photos, which is kind of odd, but awesome for Stevie at the same time. I wonder if Mick showing up may have something to do with the FM machinery starting to gear up again for 2008? hmmm, I don't know what kind of negotiations are going on behind the scenes with all the Mac members. I know we have debated this to death if FM is going to tour or release anything new in 2008 or beyond, but still wish I was a fly on the wall getting the scoop on all the discussions among the members of the band. |
Thanks MacMan-that one worked fine.
Wish I could go but can't! Thanks though for doing your homework. You rock! CarolC |
