Gavin,
From my experience, the good tickets usually are released anywhere from a week to a few days before the concert--and people have had good luck getting them at the box office the day of the show, but I'm just not that daring.
Even the last time when the concert was "sold out" I got second row seats a few days before.
Um, the Borgata is a really pretty place, as far as casinos are concerned. But it's not completely representative of Atlantic City (which, some might say, is a good thing). It is NOT on the boardwalk. For viewing, dining, etc., it's really nice. The venue is really nice. For gambling, I haven't ever won a thing over there. I prefer the boardwalk casinos and I can't even tell you which one is "better" because, I guess, if you're gonna win, you're gonna win. I tend to hit Caesars, the Wild Wild West and the Claridge...just because my bus usually takes off somewhere around there;-)
So, if you want to have a full Atlantic City experience, I would hit the boardwalk and then take a jitney (these funky little vans with no shock absorbers...they throw in the kidney exam for free!) to the Borgata.
Atlantic City's boardwalk itself is something you'll either love or hate. I love it. I spent many summer vacations there as a kid (pre-gambling) and all the kitschy, somewhat weird stuff still appeals to me on some strange level. There is a mall (across from Caesars), and about a million little tourist trap stores selling junkie souvenirs, and there are fortune tellers and funnel cakes and all kinds of oddities.
And the ocean is RIGHT there.
Anyway, that's your official tourist update.
Stage door at the Borgata? Not that I've ever seen, but that doesn't mean it's not there.
