another closet case Republican

Is it just me, or is being a Republican sort of now like having a closet leather fetish? I mean these people are so santimonious - then like to get a prostate tickle on the side. And, nothing against weight challenged people, but they all seem to look fat and constipated

Michigan Republican activist pleads guilty to sexual battery

CLEVELAND -- A lawyer who formerly led a Michigan young Republicans organization has pleaded guilty to sexual battery for forcing sex acts on a woman while both were at a convention last July.

The case was headed to trial, but prosecutors reached a plea agreement with Michael A. Flory during a break in jury selection Tuesday in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court.

Flory, 32, of Jackson, Mich., faces one to five years in prison or probation at his sentencing Sept. 13. He also will become a registered sex offender. Judge Peter J. Corrigan will determine whether to classify him as a sexual predator.

When Corrigan asked if he was pleading guilty, Flory responded "sure." When pressed by the judge and prodded by his attorney, Flory then answered, "yes."

Flory had faced 11 charges, including eight counts of rape, kidnapping, aggravated burglary and gross sexual imposition.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Flory, who has a law office in Okemos, Mich., and is the former chairman of the Michigan Federation of Young Republicans, said accepting the plea would mean less emotional hardship for the victim and witnesses who would have been called to testify.

He was among the young Republicans, ages 18 to 40, at a convention in Cleveland. The victim, 21 at the time, was intoxicated and became ill, and Flory took her back to her hotel, said assistant county prosecutor Carol Skutnik.

"She said thank you and goodbye, and he forced his way into her hotel room and forced several sex acts on her," Skutnik said. "Afterward he was bragging about it."

Flory put a different slant on why he accepted the plea deal.

"While I am confident a trial would have demonstrated the full truth regarding these allegations, my experience as a lawyer was that this course is the best avenue for all parties involved," Flory said in his statement. "The possibility of being unavailable to raise my young son was simply too much for me to risk, and this will allow us to get on with our lives."

The woman, also from Michigan, was satisfied that Flory accepted responsibility for the crime, Skutnik said.

The more that are exposed, the better the rest of us are. I wish the old guard would get toppled the same way

Looky, looky, looky - we got us a SENATOR this time. Interesting how this has been kept under wraps for nearly 3 months, yes?

I'm linking to the Americablog mirror, because the originating site (Roll Call) has been overwhelmed.

Sen. Larry Craig (R-Idaho) was arrested in June at a Minnesota airport by a plainclothes police officer investigating lewd conduct complaints in a men's public restroom, according to an arrest report obtained by Roll Call Monday afternoon.

Craig's arrest occurred just after noon on June 11 at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. On Aug. 8, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor disorderly conduct in the Hennepin County District Court. He paid more than $500 in fines and fees, and a 10-day jail sentence was stayed. He also was given one year of probation with the court that began on Aug. 8.

A spokesman for Craig described the incident as a "he said/he said misunderstanding," and said the office would release a fuller statement later Monday afternoon.

After he was arrested, Craig, who is married, was taken to the Airport Police Operations Center to be interviewed about the lewd conduct incident, according to the police report.

Idaho's Larry Craig on the issues:

* Voted YES on constitutional ban of same-sex marriage. (Jun 2006)
* Voted NO on adding sexual orientation to definition of hate crimes. (Jun 2002)
* Voted NO on expanding hate crimes to include sexual orientation. (Jun 2000)
* Voted YES on prohibiting same-sex marriage. (Sep 1996)
* Voted NO on prohibiting job discrimination by sexual orientation. (Sep 1996)

Craig has a 0% rating in HRC's 2006 Congressional Scorecard.
ThinkProgress has some hilarious excerpts as well: http://thinkprogress.org/2007/08/27/...pleads-guilty/

From the arresting officer's police report:

Quote:

My experience has shown that individuals engaging in lewd conduct use their bags to block the view from the front of their stall. From my seated position, I could observe the shoes and ankles of Craig seated to the left of me. […]

At 1216 hours, Craig tapped his right foot. I recognized this as a signal used by persons wishing to engage in lewd conduct. Craig tapped his toes several times and moves his foot closer to my foot. I moved my foot up and down slowly. While this was occurring, the male in the stall to my right was still present. I could hear several unknown persons in the restroom that appeared to use the restroom for its intended use. The presence of others did not seem to deter Craig as he moved his right foot so that it touched the side of my left foot which was within my stall area.

I wonder if Larry Craig was one of the senators that Larry Flynt had some dirt on?
