I don't often listen to live 94 stuff, but when I do I'm always amazed at how strong her voice actually was then and how much high-end there still was, compared to now...

Her voice was in really fine form. She's rather dull to watch though, just swaying back and forth.

Ew. I don't like that song live or in the studio. It's just sounds so desperate for a hit single. But as far as her voice today, Macman, didn't you go to a show on this tour? Her voice is way better now than it was then. I swear I was stunned by the notes that came out of her during How Stil My Love, If Anyone Falls, and especially Beauty and the Beast. I hope you went - even if you don't agree.

I love this video too, her voice sounded great then. I also really like the song.
I agree that she was making an effort on the CV tour, but she still sounded way stronger in 94.

No, unfortunately I didn't see a show... And I do agree with you on her voice today, it definately is strong especially since 2001 - but just listening to this, you can hear the difference in her range compared to todays voice and to me it sounds and looks more effortless for her then today voice.

The change in it between 94 - 97 is dramatic.

It might have actually been a hit single had her Street Angel vocal contained the passion of this version. For me, both this song and Destiny came alive on this tour. I remember thinking the same thing about Twisted when I finally heard it live, and there have been concerts when I thought the vocal on one of her classics surpassed that of the album version.

This is my dream scenario for Stevie's next album: I wish she would liberate 15 songs from her vault, rehearse them with her band to a playable level, and take them on the road for a short intimate venue tour (for fans only, secret club dates, whatever). Then, take the same band into the studio immediately and record whatever worked best, however it worked best. And naturally carry this cycle to its conclusion by taking these same people on the road.

I think this is the show where she sings a little of At The Fair.

I thought the Street Angel tour was great. She had less control with her voice than she does today, but she hit some really satisfying notes. There was a softness in her voice that she rarely uses anymore on stage. (The parts at the end of How Still My Love on the current tour is one example of that rare voice.) In this Maybe Love clip, you can hear it when she sings "this time..." It just stands out from the rest of the chorus.

I too love this. Her voice was due for much more credit than it got for that time period. I'm not a HUGE fan of that song, not one of my mega fav's, but if she pulled that one out of the hat today I'd fall over. I think it'd sound great.

Stevie looks better these days, but vocally? SA tour ftw...

Well smoking 3 packs of Kools a day would render a big vocal change. :D

Stevie started smoking in 1984. At this point, she would have been smoking for ten years, so........

I think she said she quit for the tour. I know from personal experience even a few days of not smoking greatly improves the ability to hit a huge vocal.

ON EDIT - she hit many a good note on the OSOTM and Timespace tours. I think the klonopin and other crap made them lifeless. So, when she was "sober" for the SA tour, I think that is the extra spark that had been missing.
