Led Zep to reform?
(Monday June 25, 2007 05:25 PM)

Led Zeppelin are reportedly about to reunite for a one-off memorial concert.

If true, it would mark the third time that the 70s legends have played since disbanding.

After the death of drummer John Bonham in 1980, founding members Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones regrouped for Live Aid in 1985 (with Phil Collins) and for Atlantic Records' 40th Anniversary concert (with Bonham's son Jason).

It is now suggested that the latter formation will play a special concert in memory of Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun in London.

A source said: "Page, Plant and Jones spoke and agreed to do the memorial concert. They are waiting for a definite date.

"And no-one can quite believe it, but during discussions about the concert they all gave the green light to a tour if it all does well and they don't all fall out.

"It has been hoped-for and denied for years. But this is the closest they have ever come to a reunion tour. The feeling is that this is going to happen next year."

Ertegun died in December 2006 following a fall at a Rolling Stones concert.

The likes of Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Stevie Nicks and Crosby, Stills & Nash all played his New York memorial in April of this year.

I was at Live Aid when the band performed in '85, and I've never heard a crowd go so crazy in all my life.

It's a bittersweet reunion without Bonham. For this reason, it's hard for me to get too excited .

P.S. Hello Jake! :wavey:

This is one band I have always wanted to see live. Here's hoping for a world tour!!

I agree - but I could live with Jason Bonham filling daddy's shoes. :) Hell, I don't care who is drumming - if this is a go, it would be the most exciting band reunion, to me anyway, since The Dance.

Gee...I wonder if Paul & Ringo could get Dhani & Julian and do a Beatle reunion?

Better yet, a new band consisting of Zack Starkey, James McCartney, Dhani Harrison, and Julian and/or Sean Lennon.

And, Stella can design their stage wear.

 Blaspheme!

To me, John Bonham was a HUGE part of the Zep sound. He had a really unique and signature style of drumming. Noone hits harder than Bonham, and certainly not his son. He needs to go back to Foreigner!

^^^ I meant no disrespect to Bonzo. But he's dead.

Hey, are you planning to go see Lez Zeppelin at La Zona Rosa next Tues. nite?

LEZ ZEPPELIN

Since forming in 2004, LEZ ZEPPELIN - the New York City-based,all-girl, all-Zeppelin quartet -- has gained unanimous critical acclaim as one of the most exciting live acts around, becoming the first female rock act to pay homage to Led Zeppelin and to garner rave reviews across the board. LEZ ZEPPELIN stays true to the musically audacious spirit of the original, delivering the legendary rock band's blistering arrangements and monstrous sound note-for-note at sold-out shows across the country. The thing that sets them apart, however, is the seamless and unique way LEZ ZEPPELIN inject their gender-bending performance into the original material.

Channeling Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and John Bonham are: Sarah McLellan on vocals; Steph Paynes on electric and acoustic guitar and theremin; Lisa Brigantino on bass, keyboards and mandolin; and Helen Destroy on drums.

The band has just finished their debut album at Electric Lady in NYC with legendary producer/engineer Eddie Kramer known for his work with Led Zeppelin, Jimmy Hendrix, KISS, Lauren Hill etc. The record will be released worldwide in Spring 2007.

"80 percent flawless and 99 percent awesome." – SPIN

"There's something beautiful and deeply subversive in taking one of the most masculine, straight, heavy groups of all time and turning them into girls. Chuck in the "Lez" reference and we're talking about a revolution." -- The Times of London

"Strapping on the double-necked Gibson with attitude to burn, this all-girl quartet pays tribute to its swaggering namesake Led Zeppelin, ripping through the catalog with blazing accuracy." – The New York Times

"Their name may sound like a joke, but Lez Zeppelin takes its tribute-band duties seriously. These ladies channel the sonic bombast of Led Zeppelin and gleefully invert the band's original sexual essence." – The New Yorker

This was also the same performance that Plant and Page were so disgusted with that it didn't make the Live Aid DVD set.

Mary could handle album photography and videos.

And Heather could supply the pot. Oh, wait, that's pots.
