Mary Chapin Carpenter's The Calling

Anyone else love this album? ..Some of the awesome songs include the title track ,Houston a heartbreaking song about the displaced of Katrina ,On with the Song about the country establishment's awful treatment of The Dixie Chicks and the closer Bright Morning Star which reminds me of recent EmmyLou Harris .The band is great and includes Russ Kunkle and her voice has matured nicely..I think it is one of the best so far this year.

Great album! As I posted in the concert tour thread, MCC had to cancel her entire 2007 tour due to an injury of some kind. That's too bad because radio can't find a place for her so her concerts are the best place to promote the album.

Yes radio is pretty abysmal these days which really sucks because half of the tracks on The Calling could have been hit singles at some point in history. The songs are so well crafted ,great lyrically and like I mentioned her band totally rocks.

Oh I love Mary, She's great, I seen her live, I have to check her new cd out, Ya about coutry radio. It sucks, big time.Big corp ownership payola crap, with the new crop of artists.they don't play old artists like MMC and others.ya the same thing goes with a little or zero air play of Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac New tunes as we here know.

from her website:

April 30, 2007, Charlottesville, VA.: On Friday, April 27, 2007, Rounder Records recording artist Mary Chapin Carpenter officially canceled her summer tour. She recently finished the Spring 2007 leg of The Calling tour during which time she experienced pain from a recent back injury. She was subsequently hospitalized for a pulmonary embolism, possibly as a result of her limited movement during the spring tour.

Having been released on April 27 from Martha Jefferson Hospital, Carpenter is well on her way to recovery. She hopes to resume touring sometime in 2008. No further information is available at this time.
