Companies to pull ads from Coulter's Web site

http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/03/...ads/index.html

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- At least three major companies want their ads pulled from Ann Coulter's Web site, following customer complaints about the right-wing commentator referring to Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards as a "faggot."

Verizon, Sallie Mae and Georgia-based NetBank each said they didn't know their ads were on AnnCoulter.com until they received the complaints.

A diarist at the liberal blog DailyKos.com posted contact information for dozens of companies with ads on Coulter's site after the commentator made her remarks about Edwards at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington on Friday.

"One of the best ways to communicate one's distaste for Coulter's repeated incidents of hate speech is to respectfully but firmly let her advertisers know you are deeply troubled by their indirect support of bigotry through their advertising on Coulter's Web site," the blogger VolvoDrivingLiberal wrote on DailyKos.com on Sunday.

Verizon, Sallie Mae and NetBank said the ads were put on a variety of sites by a third party company. In many cases, advertisers do not know which sites feature their ads.

"Per our policy, the networked Web site ad purchases are supposed to be stripped of certain kinds of Web sites," said a Verizon spokesperson. "This one could be considered an extreme political Web site, should be off the list, and now it is off the list."

A Sallie Mae spokesperson said the company was only testing an online advertising agency, and that their ads were not meant to show up on Coulter's site. The company said they planned to pull ads from other political and religious Web sites as well.

A spokesperson for NetBank said Coulter's page "is not the kind of site we want to be on."

Coulter did not respond to CNN's request for comment.

She grates on my nerves:nod: Her jokes are not funny.

HejiraNYC 03-06-2007 12:27 AM

She thinks she's the ultimate conservative Republican piece of ass, when actually she looks like John Kerry in bad drag. I wouldn't **** that sknak with two bags over her head!

Let's see if she goes to rehab.

I would rather eat vomit than listen, look or think to, at or of this woman.

and if you know me, you know how.serious.this.is.

Someone should hook her up with Howard K. Stern, so he could do us all a favor and bump her off too.

Clearly she made that joke to get in the limelight, which she has been out of for the last year or so. And, it worked

Retgarding her, I think she is a smart woman who knows how to work the public to make money. I also think she is a lying peice of shiite who takes a grain of truth and spins it her way, all while refusing to apply that twisted logic to her own party.

Glad to see companies pulling their money from her, but also long for the day when she does her lame thing and absolutely nobody pays attention. She thrives off of this stuff and is a rather sick woman.

The only problem is that she didn't make a joke, she uttered a direct slur. There was no comedic pretense to her statement- it was pretty direct.

I've always thought she has gone "too far" with her ridiculously false hyperbolic claims. I'm just glad that she finally went "too far" when it comes to the pulse of America (read: least common denominator).

I think she set it up as a joke in that she was attacking Edwards as well as the pattern of someone using a slur and then going into rehab as an excuse for it.

Personally, I have no huge issues with "faggot" -- but get that some do and totally agree that Coulter went too far for mainstream America, which was not the audience she was playing to when she made the remark.

Also, I LOVE how Fox News is spinning this into a sep. issue of why don't the liberals get equal bad press when they jokingly call for Cheney's assination a la Bill Maher. I mean do two wrongs make a right

I don't have any issues with gays being called "fag" or "faggot", eventhough it's all in bad taste. What I don't like about Coulter's joke was that she used it to describe someone who she hates for his political leanings (as she has done before about Bill Clinton and Al Gore). She keeps referring to them as fags or other gay slurs, so she's expressing her hate for these people by addressing them this way. It's directly a slur meant to express HATE. Not a comment on their sexuality.

And I watched Real Time with Bill Mahr - he never said such a thing. He was commenting on a blogger's statement at HuffingtonPost.com, that said he wished the bomb that exploded near Cheney had killed him. Bill Mahr then said he believes if Cheney were dead there'd be less killing in Iraq.

She knew exactly what she was doing. She was showing support for the concept that faggot/homosexual = male weakness. And she was showing support for the ability to use that word as a means to put someone down- menacingly, I might add.

I can handle my own against it- however, there are a lot of scared teenagers who see that word as quite a threat. Throwing it around as an accepted cheap shot is akin to talking about how great lynchings were with a "wink, wink" and a laugh.

The fact that her audience reveled in it makes it all the more disgusting.

Bill Maher making a statement about what would happen if Cheney had died in Afghanistan has no comparison to this. I won't even get into the comments made on Fox Noise. That they would have people on defending her statements is shameful.
