Dreams Fan Event review
I managed to make it back in one piece and am exhausted. it was a great time and I have lots to share. but, of course, I'm having computer problems...with my iMac. figures. and I haven't swapped everything (or anything actually) to my MacBook. anyway, as soon as I get settled in, rested and figure out what's going on, I'll share a review and pics/vids.

fun? packed? |
On the edge of my seat.
I think you should have named this thread Jazzy Does Boston. Just as an homage to Debbie Does Dallas. |

the review
Let’s see…where to begin. I guess there’s not much to review besides the show since I didn’t do a whole lot else. Besides the boring stuff like delayed flights and packed airports, that’s about the extent of the excitement apart from the show. The Hyatt Harborside is a great hotel with awesome views and a nice pool/sauna/workout area, but expect at least at $20 cab ride to anywhere. Boston didn’t really hit me as a place I’d like to live or visit often though. Nothing against the place, I just didn’t get that “vibe” – but the architecture and buildings were all gorgeous. Anyway, on to the good stuff.
So, soundcheck was at 4 on Saturday so I spent all day Saturday pacing and drinking water. I worked out, sat in the sauna and swam in the pool trying to calm my nerves and take my mind off of it. Why I do this to myself I don’t know. So, I get to soundcheck and the venue is awesome. Very nice and really perfect for the event. We had a few technical difficulties, which carried into the actual performance, but managed in the end. Since we didn’t start soundcheck til 4 and that took til a little after 5, it put me back at the hotel around 5:45 or so and I was supposed to be back and ready to go around 7:45. talk about a mad dash. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten ready so quick in my life. The only thing I didn’t have time to do was my nails. I just said screw it. So, make it back to the club and there’s a good size crowd. I’d probably say there were about 75 people. I’m horrible at guesstimating, but that’s my guess. And for the record, I have to accept responsibility for earlier reports that the venue holds 4000 people, I knew I saw 4000 somewhere, but it’s 4000 sq. feet, not capacity. My bad. Sorry. Anyway, so I go on about 8:30ish and had a few problems with the sound. At soundcheck I thought I had explained the right levels for my mic and the music, but they either forgot or the presets got lost when they blew a circuit. In any event, at times I couldn’t hear myself or really hear the music and so I ended up singing too loud and running out of breath or not really being able to find my place in the song. It was weird, but it is what it is. There was a little feedback here and there, but nothing too bad. After my set, Teri (Gypsy Wild aka Gypsy0033) went on and did an awesome set. She did a few songs acoustically with her son and it was really amazing. Especially her rendition of Doing the Best I Can. Then, Barbara (Timeless Barbara) hit the stage and totally rocked out in her 80’s Stevieness. She was great; especially on How Still My Love. Then, we came back and each did an encore. Barbara did Edge, I did BATB and Teri did SOTM. All of which I think were our best performances of the night. Lastly, we all joined together and sang Bella Donna. This is where the technical glitches were really apparent…bad, bad feedback, one mic didn’t work…just bad. but somehow we managed to really make it work and I think, in spite of the problems, pulled it off and made it special. The event wasn’t packed…it wasn’t even nearly packed, but in retrospect, it doesn’t matter really because the people that were there were amazing and were having such a good time. There were people from the UK and people that drove 15 HOURS to come see this show. Brian and everyone involved did a great job promoting and trying to peak interest. It was the first annual so there’s room for growth and improvement. Live and learn. I’m just honored and happy to have been at the first. I met so many funny people and people that truly had a great time. Teri and Barbara were so much fun and I’m glad I was able to share the time with them getting to know them and see them perform. To the lady working the door (wherever/whoever you are) that kept spirits up backstage, thank you! You were hilarious and so much fun. And thanks for the drink tickets and the salicylic acid tips! Hopefully, I’m not forgetting anything, but if I am, I’ll come back and update. |
