Dumbass statement of the year...So far

Tim Hardaway: 'I hate gay people'

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17160685/

'I'm homophobic,' says former All-Star a week after Amaechi's revelation

MIAMI - Retired Miami Heat guard Tim Hardaway said Wednesday that he hates gay people, but later said he regretted the remarks.

"You know, I hate gay people, so I let it be known. I don't like gay people and I don't like to be around gay people," he said while a guest on Sports Talk 790 The Ticket. "I'm homophobic. I don't like it. It shouldn't be in the world or in the United States."

The discussion was sparked by last week's announcement that retired NBA center John Amaechi is gay. The host asked Hardaway how he would interact with a gay teammate.

"First of all, I wouldn't want him on my team. And second of all, if he was on my team, I would, you know, really distance myself from him because, uh, I don't think that is right. I don't think he should be in the locker room while we are in the locker room."

If he did find out that a teammate was gay, Hardaway said he would ask for the player to be removed from the team.

"Something has to give," Hardaway said. "If you have 12 other ballplayers in your locker room that's upset and can't concentrate and always worried about him in the locker room or on the court or whatever, it's going to be hard for your teammates to win and accept him as a teammate."

He later apologized for the remarks during a telephone interview with Fox affiliate WSVN in Miami.

"Yes, I regret it. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said I hate gay people or anything like that," he said. "That was my mistake."

I know, please! As if being gay automatically means that you are a rapist also. How dumb is this guy?

that doesn't really make sense to me, the connection between an ignorant person who plays in some sporting league and a dislike of sports. next time I'm watching the tennis or the soccer I'll have to remember that some sporting guy in america is homophobic.

JazmenFlowers 02-15-2007 09:50 AM

that dumbass. someone should remind him he's seen more cock and ass than the average gay man.

see how he feels then.

I'd much rather be around gay men then professional male athlete's. They're nothing more then a bunch of over-paid, egotistic, whining baby's who hit their women. The gay's, them lovable.

skcin 02-15-2007 04:51 PM

Well, people have the right to feel any way they want, no matter how ignorant and hateful. They also have the right to be stupidenough to tell the world that they feel this way.

estranged4life 02-15-2007 04:57 PM

Of course one can...

be stupid enough to apologize for what they said after the fact:

"Yes, I regret it. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said I hate gay people or anything like that," he said. "That was my mistake."

...What an ass

Statements like these really make gay teenagers in closet feel really encouraged about coming out. :distress:

After ALL those things he said he can't just come out with a lame ass apology like this. Unbelievable.

The only reason anyone is this extreme in expressing their horror at the idea of gay sex is that they think about it constantly. Well adjusted people don't expend that much energy thinking about the mechanics of other people's sex lives.

Pretty simple equation with this one folks.

Interesting theory. Now I know why my sister has mentioned at least ten times today already that she's not going dressed up as Lara Croft this weekend because she thinks she's hot.

Do you really think that all people who are uncomfortable with gay people are gay? I mean, I would think many of them are, I guess, but all of them? Isn't it possible that some straight guys could think it was yucky too? I would think it's possible, judging from some conversations I've had or whatever. Not saying this a-hole isn't gay, but...
