Thanks Pattie :wavey:

Lennon/McCartney

This happened once before,
When I came to your door,
No reply.
They said it wasn't you,
But I saw you peep through your window,
I saw the light, I saw the light,
I know that you saw me,
'cause I looked up to see your face.

I tried to telephone,
They said you were not home,
That's a lie,
'cause I know where you've been,
I saw you walk in your door,
I nearly died, I nearly died,
'cause you walked hand in hand
With another man in my place.

If I were you'd realize that I
Love you more than any other guy,
And I'll forgive the lies that I
Heard before when you gave me no reply.

I've tried to telephone,
They said you were not home,
That's a lie,
'cause I know where you've been,
I saw you walk in your door,
I nearly died, I nearly died,
'cause you walked hand in hand
With another man in my place.

No reply, no reply.

It makes sense if you consider his 'explanation':

Lindsey says, "Romance need not be defined only by the illusions it creates. In 'No Reply,' penned by John Lennon, a man confronts his lover with her infidelities while she denies them. Although his proof is clear, he seeks only to reestablish trust, which elevates 'No Reply' from a song of alienation to one of forgiveness and romantic faith."

Very honest.

Wow...I enjoy his explanation of his admiration for one of my very favorite Beatles songs!

Lindsey has fantastic taste in music.:xoxo: I am really shocked at how many songs we love in common.

why he talk lik dis? he neber make no since to me. his fav wurd mus be forgibness.

but seriously. I don't really get how his explanation really works with this song. there's only a couple lines about forgiveness. it still sounds really dark and un-romantic to me.

Even Go Your Own way is a Love-song. Romance is not only about everything going well. Even Jim Morrison and Ian Curtis can be labelled as overly romantics. Come on guys, read a little out of the box.

Well, you didn't expect him to name Celine Dion's Because You Loved Me, right? :D It's still Lindsey we're talking about here. I understand perfectly what he's saying, even though I admit it's an odd choice for a Valentine's Day song.

Gerald is right, Go Your Own Way is really a love song also, I wish a guy would sing to me 'Baby, I'd give you my world, open up, everything's waiting for you'. Those are the true feelings in the song, the chorus is just the anger talking.

And yes, Jim Morrison... Love Street is a perfect example. Written about his girlfriend Pamela.

These things are all just hidden in between all the darkness and despair.

yeah, I agree with what you're saying. aside from the debate about what a romantic/love song is, I guess my point was that for a V-Day song, it's just an odd choice.

Billo 02-12-2007 12:02 PM

Me likey da Beatles.

But yeah, it is sort of an odd "love song" choice, but I suppose given his difficulties in the relationship department, rather appropriate.

Plus he's got his own songs for love with Kristen. "It Was You" probably being the most overt and also a damn fine Valentine's Day song in itself.

BTFLCHLD 02-12-2007 12:10 PM

a very pretty melody.

I agree about the oddity of his love song choice although I suppose it shows I'm not as deep. I'm sure it reinforces his faith in cycles or something. ;) :p I get what he's saying though I'd go for obvious choices like "Here, There, and Everywhere" or "I Will"...they gave us plenty of great love songs!!

Still happy that he used The Beatles though!!

I love Lindsey but that is one weird and slightly pretentious (given his reasoning) choice of Valentine's song. I hope his present to his wife is a little more typically romantic than that.
