Solomon Burke

i'm really surprised i haven't heard anyone talking about this album! it seems like just the kind of thing that would interest the likes of chilid and homer, although maybe not? anyway, i just had to come and share my love for this album. it's such great soulful twang, and features great performances by emmylou, dolly, patty griffin, and gillian welch. it's fantastic. does anyone else have it?

I like Solomon Burke quite a bit, but mainly his stuff from the '60s...I knew he was still active, but never really looked at his current stuff. But I may have to check this out. :)

if you like, i can upload some tracks for you tomorrow! normally i'm not very moved by men's voices, but this album is fab. it doesn't hurt, of course, that he teamed up with three of my favorite country/folk ladies of all time. :D

omg - thank you for posting this! i don't know the album, but i love emmylou so much (not to mention patty). have you heard the songs emmylou's done with bright eyes? they're stunning - "nowhere and now," "land locked blues," and one that is escaping my mind at the moment...

i'm going to check this out - thanks again! :wavey:

Carrie, you are the ****. Why? Well, there are many reasons why, but this is one of them. I LOVE Solomon Burke. I have for years. When I was a little kid, my mom and dad used to play a lot of Motown and Soul music, and of course, Solomon's music was played. I got back into him recently, and he's pretty much the coolest.

I haven't heard this album yet, but I really want to check it out. I think I get paid next week.. there goes the concept of saving up.

Yay, I am exciteddddd

I'll be there! I have no excuse since it's literally 10 minutes away from my house. I better score good tickets since I'm a front row snob. I saw the Pretenders at the Benedum, which is basically the same as the Byham, and there really are no bad seats, but still.

I borrowed it from work when it first came out, mainly for the Dolly and Emmylou collaborations. It was so-so

I just got this album and it is FABULOUS! This guy is amazing. I think he's the last of those great male soul singers, but he's just as great now as he ever was. This has got to be among his best material.

Well, the collaborations are very low-key; they're mostly just singing back-up. Which I was glad about, because I think those "duet" albums are horribly overdone. If you don't like blues, soul, or traditional country, this will not be your bag.

I def. do not like traditional country, but Im somewhat partial to blues and soul. I don't know, maybe I will have to take it home again :)
