Mick and Sam Fox? Brit Awards - take two?

http://www.itv.com/page.asp?partid=7478

BRIT Awards host Russell Brand is trying to persuade the organisers of the music industry bash to give disastrous former hosts Mick Fleetwood and Sam Fox an appearance on the show.

The anarchic comedian thinks it would be hilarious to bring the odd couple back to hand out an award together. The Fleetwood Mac drummer and former Page Three girl presented the ceremony in 1989 - extremely badly.

And the TV catastrophe has become such legend that Russell is pushing for a comeback of sorts.

"I've been trying to get the organisers to get them on," he explains.

"I met Sam the other night and she said she'd really be up for it."

What happened the first time? Anyone got a clip?

The Brits in '89 was a DISASTER! Everything that could go wrong..went wrong.

What exactly went wrong? I've heard many times, that Mick's appearance was a disaster. I've never seen a video. What happened?

I remember it just being a complete farce, with not a lot of it being their fault.. there were problems with the autocue, so they often had no idea what was coming up next, or what they were supposed to say. And of course Sam Fox is about 5 foot nothing, with Mick at 6 foot plenty, so they looked pretty daft to start with

And Russell Brand is a dick

Well, they claimed the autocue wasn't working, so for a lot of the show they were just staring blankly into the cameras, which is the kiss of death for a live show, and neither seemed capable of improvising. They also introduced the wrong people at the wrong times, things like that and showed little personality through the whole affair. It was cringeworthy TV and led to the Brits being pre-recorded ever since. I think this year will be the first time it has been broadcast live since 1989.

Here's a picture of the terrible duo during a "comedy" moment when tiny Sam tried to use Mick's tall mike. Hilarious I'm sure you'll agree :D

As far as I remember it was embarassing. I'm not sure the autocue was working properly and I think at one point someone tried to announce the winner of an award without saying who the nominees were! It was clear that neither Mick or Sam Fox had the experience of this type of show to deal with anything that went wrong.

After that they never broadcasted the show live again. It is now recorded one night and broadcast the next.

Just for a bit of background info Sam Fox is a former "Page Three Girl". That is to say a lady (?) who poses topless on page three of a popular (not with me) british tabloid newspaper called The Sun. I may be wrong but I think she came out as a lesbian a few years back which is kind of ironic really.

So performing with Mick, leads to lesbianism?
I can see that!

That picture is hilarious. I wish someone had taped the show. That's a video I'd love to see.

As far as I remember that was an intentional joke.

All the rest of the "jokes" happened by mistake

Thanks for the info. I'd never heard of Sam Fox. I'm not very familiar with those trashy Brit tabloids.;)

At one point, Sam and Mick introduced The Four Tops to perform on stage and out walked Boy George with an award statue and an envelope. It was basically introducing the wrong people, the wrong awards...at one point, Sam Fox introduced and award for best single and the nominations popped up for best album. The whole thing just went wrong. Also, Sam did the goodbye's bit before the last break instead of at the end.

I think that she was kind of a one hit wonder here in the states back in the 80s. She had a song called 'Naughy Girls Need Love, Too" if I remember correctly.
