Poll: Favorite "aid" song
Remember Live Aid, Band Aid, USA for Africa, etc?? Well what song did you like most? We are the world or Do they know is Christmas? I like the USA for Africa song but LOVE.. ADORE.. the Band Aid song.. I always listen that song on Christmas (a local radio always plays that song all december long)
Any memories from that era? |
Neither. I guess if I had to choose, I'd rather listen to We Are the World.
|
oh man. sorry, villavic, i can't listen to either of these. if i HAD to choose, i'd go with we are the world, because do they know it's christmas makes my bones melt.

I LOVE the Band Aid song

Def. Do They Know Its Christmas. We Are The World is a big piece of crap.

i just realized I posted this in the wrong forum.
Well, anyway vote if you like it |
"Do They Know It's Christmas" is the best sanctimonious song EVER. I sang that at karaoke a few weeks ago, prefacing it as, "The scariest song of all time." Aside from the obvious "there is snow in Africa" (Mt. Kiliminjaro[sp]) and most of Africa couldn't care about Christmas, we see Bono getting his start at being smug and pointing a very sharp finger with, "Well, tonight thank God it's them instead of you!" (And if you listen to the long one, David Bowie does a mini-speech.)
...and all of this really rather reminds me of the Rumors-era line up of Fleetwood Mac...(topic!) |

Neither. It is Coil's Tainted Love (a cover of a cover).
|
both are too cheesy to listen to really but do they know its christmas is streets ahead of the other

[QUOTE=JunkFoodGenius] and most of Africa couldn't care about Christmas/QUOTE]
Actually the early Chrisitian church has a strong history in Africa, especially in Ethiopia where the whole Band Aid relief effort was focussed, so they were probably very aware of Christmas - which only goes to support your point about the sanctimonious tone of the song. (PS - not a Christian myself, by any means) My own favourite song of this type from this era is "Sun City". |

What, no Tears Are Not Enough (Northern Lights)? 'Cmon, it had Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Burton Cummings, Anne Murray, AND Gordon Lightfoot!
