UNITED NATIONS (CNN) -- Negotiators are meeting at the United Nations Saturday to hammer out a resolution calling for sanctions against North Korea in response to its claimed nuclear test.

The United States is pushing for a Security Council vote on Saturday and diplomats from the five permanent council members plus Japan have begun talks in New York.

A full council meeting is set to convene at noon ET but a vote on sanctions is not assured.

Both scheduled meetings will be held in private.

While details of the draft resolution were incomplete, diplomats said it could prevent materials for weapons programs and luxury goods from being sold to North Korea.

Referring to leader Kim Jong Il's long, documented record of leaving large parts of his population in famine, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton said Friday, "The North Korean population's been losing average height and weight over the years, and maybe this will be a little diet for Kim Jong Il."

Okay, so let me get this straight. We're going to impose sanctions on a country that is starving because we think that if we take Dear Leader's wine, chocolate and porn away he'll toe the line?
I swear to god, this administration either doesn't know what diplomacy is, doesn't give a damn or both. I'm really starting to believe that they want world war III. Oh and I've included the photo that accompanied the article on CNN's homepage which I thought was quite a hoot:
