Baseball rant

Ok, the American League has 14 teams, the National League 16. Just a few years ago Bud "I'm an idiot in charge of baseball" Selig moves his OWN team, the Milwaukee Brewers from the AL to the NL. What a f***ing idiot.

The whole "Milwaukee is a National League town" excuse doesn't hold water...they had the Braves for only 13 years (1953-1966), they snaked the Brewers away from Seattle (Pilots) in 1970 (with no team at all for four years)...hence, Milwaukee is an AMERICAN league town.

If the Brewers were still in the AL, the two leagues would be balanced at 15 each. (they should be in the AL Central, then move the KC Royals back into the AL West...all divisions in both leagues would have 5 teams)

As I recall, this was done to accomodate interleague play, since both leagues needed to have an even number of teams to make it happen in specific blocks of time during the season, rather than scattered across the whole schedule.

The fact that the Brewers/Selig were given the chance to move leagues definitely smacks as a conflict of interest, though.

That's another idea that is just bad...they should ****can that one too. (it cheapens the World Series, I think)

And, I'm still against the Designated Hitter, too. Just call me a baseball purist.

I dont know, I kind of like the DH. I dont pay to see a pitcher get up to the plate and look like a fool. :p

And I do think the Brewers need to come back to the AL. The Yankees need a new team to cream evey year.

If they had to hit every game they pitch, they'd get better. It's just that there's been a couple of generations of pitchers whose hitting skills have been atrophied by the DH rule. There are, and have been, some great pitchers who could hit as well as an everyday player:

Babe Ruth
Don Drysdale
Bob Gibson
Satchel Paige
Christy Mathewson
Walter Johnson
Tony Cloninger
Bob Welch
Burt Hooten
Dontrell Willis

Funny how...

Selig's daughter now runs the Brewers (Unless that has changed, which I heard may have happened.)

I will never get used to Milwaukee being a NL team, It ruined my image of the '82 Brewers vs. Cards World Series.

As for the DH, I say a pitcher should have to bat-So if ya drill an opposing teams player payback can be quickly dealt and no more beanball wars ala Angels & Rangers this season. (Look at Carlos Zambrano of the Cubs-He has hit 5 HR's this season proving he takes his batting seriously)

As for interleague play, it has become stale. I wouldnt mind if either every team was allowed to play a home & home series among each other or if the whole interleague idea was scrapped.

The idea of having a "substitute player" was tried out in One-Day International cricket in the series between England, Australia and Bangladesh in England this year. It didn't seem to be much of a success, especially if you made your substitute in the 1st innings rather than the 2nd.

The Aust Cricket Board were quite excited about it, so it might be tried in this summer's Aus, Eng & New Zealand series.

Thankfully it isn't in Test cricket - yet. That, along with "Twenty20" would be too much.

He'd be on first base...doing his Mo Vaughn impersonation.

I was an Ortiz...

fan until his recent cry-baby BS about the MVP (Let's face it, the Red Sox collapsed as fast as the White Sux did, Well nearly not that fast!).

He is on the level of PAy-Rod in my opinion for being whine-bag.

I am a NL fan, unfortunately the AL has the better teams as of late.
