Overcoming Obession

I decided to put this in Gen. Disc. cause it could be anything that you obess about.
If you read earlier, I had decided to try and go to the Petty show in Atlanta tonight. While getting ready, something just didn't feel right. I've gone places without Mason for a few hours and been fine, but this time it felt different. Also I'd be taking money from my finacee's big change jug, which I felt really bad about. Then I'd have to make up a lie as to where I was. Cause if I went to another concert he would probably not marry me.
I REALLY wanted to go, but talked myself out of it. I'm not happy but I'm proud that I did not give into temptation.
I kept telling myself its not the end of the world and they'll always be more.
Anyone else ever felt like this, about anything?

When Tom/Stevie came to my area, I was somewhat obsessed with going. I would not give up hope of going until I realized it was like, 6pm and I'd never make it to the venue on time. I was only obsessed though for that day and maybe a few afterward. But I had that crappy feeling- couldn't stop thinking about it ridiculousness.

And you're just kidding about your fiancee not marrying you, right? :(

Yes, completely kidding. But he would be very upset. He had to deal with 2 Vegas trips, Stevie & Don and now Lindsey. I did tell him though that I was trying to think of a way to go and he said he was sorry that I didn't get to. :xoxo: I just didn't tell him I was ready to walk out the door.

Yeah, I didn't get to see Stevie and Tom when they were here because I was broke. I'm so broke right now it's rediculous. That is what I obsess on. But around the time of the concert I was pissed because I sort of feel entitled to go see Stevie. My bank account saw it differently. The only way to counter obsession is to put something else in your head. Like you did thinking positively about the money you saved and what not. If I get really bad obsessing I will repeat the serenity prayer over and over again, that will get rid of it.

Oh, I know the feeling. The upcoming trip to Berkeley is definitely my last hurrah - and that's being tied in to a trip to see friends & family.

If Mac or Stevie or LB are in town (or within a short drive) and I have the cash, fine. But no more of this flying all over the place for concerts. My priorities are definitely changing, and I just can't do it anymore.

Congrats on being able to hold yourself back, Brit. :D

Well I had sort of a similar experience last summer with Stevie. I shouldnt have done what I did, but I was able not only to see the shows, but alot of sights that I never wouldve been able to otherwise. The Lindsey thing I'm ab le to do this year is a total bonus. Never expected to be able to afford that. And now, if I cant see Fleetwood Mac again, I know I enjoyed the hell outta the last tour, so I'm ok with that.

I so know about the obessing thing. It gets me in trouble, so I'm trying very hard to get over it.

I don't obsess so much over concerts - but more material things. Like I'll see a shirt or a bag, or some shoes and fall in love with them. I usually can't afford said items - and I can pass initially. THEN the obsession hits. I mean I just obsess about the item until I finally break down and buy it (sometimes on credit) then I feel awful because I'm trying to get OUT of debt.

Then I feel bad because I think of people all over the world who don't have the luxury of multiple pairs of shoes, dozens of bags and such. And I know I don't need the items...so I feel bad about breaking down and getting them.

I am getting better though. I saw this shirt I loved at Kohl's recently - but didn't buy it, obsessed about it - and still didn't buy it! And guess what - I'm not dead! Yea!

I hate having an obsessive personality.

Thank you, Thank you. I think the lyrics from "Doing the Best That I Can" are approiate for what I was putting myself through.
My priorities have changed also. I can't just hop on a plane and go see a concert anymore, I have a family now. I'm still trying to adjust to the fact that I can't go and do as I please. I'm very lucky in the sense that Damian understands how much music and concerts mean to me. So he may be my fiancee but he doesn't dictate my life.
