Get a hobby.

I had an interesting morning...

After class, I was waiting outside for a ride where I usually do, right across the street from the uni. There are about three houses on this little street, and normally what I do is walk down and lean against this huge rought iron fence until my mom shows.

So, I'm standing there, minding my own business, listening to my music. Out of the corner of my eye, I notice a woman coming out of the house. I think nothing of it, and completely ignore her. Next thing I know, I feel a little poke in my back. I take off my earphones, and she goes, "Uh, we've had problems with this fence?", like I should know what that means. I just looked at her, totally confused, so she says again, "PROBLEMS with this FENCE, thank you"

Got the hint, thanks. I just snapped, "Oh, really? All right then" and backed off of her stupid fence.

Let me get this straight: I can understand the fence is technically her property. But, I'm on the other side of her lawn, with little more than my ass against this precious piece of metal, which is a wee bit taller than I am - and I'm pretty short - and she feels like jabbing me in the back and telling me to move? I wasn't even doing anything. I wasn't sawing away at it, or climbing it, or throwing stuff into her yard. And I was by myself! Right, better watch the **** out.

Am I nuts, or is was this chick being an unnecessary bitch?

I don't know if she was a bitch but I'd be upset if someone touched me. Even if you had your headphones on and couldn't hear her, she could have positioned herself in front of you to get your attention. Ok, she's a big ole bitch. :wavey:

Weeeelll some people are weird about their property. And some people get nervous seeing young people "loitering" outside of their property. Maybe someone else had vandalized or hurt the fence? And she was taking it out on you.

There is no excuse for her poking you - and she could have been nicer about it - so yeah she has issues.

Yeah. Even though she couldn't call me by name, I would've settled for her screeching in my ear. You should've heard the attitude on her, though! Damn.

You're probably lucky the "little poke" wasn't the barrel of a rifle or shotgun.

"I'm glad you have fence. It's a beautiful fence. I choked up when I saw this incredible fence. What a fantastic fence, ma'am. I hope you can spend the rest of you're life behind it to watch it. Good afternoon."

I figured she must have had some bad experience(s) in the past. But... I don't know, I wasn't doing anything even remotely suspicious or offensive! I could see if I were with a big group, being obnoxious, but this was on the very edge of her property and on the other side of the grass. I wasn't even looking at her damn house.

I don't know how long she's been there, but she lives directly across from a university and what looks like a private elementary school. There's bound to be a lot of people outside of/around your house, no matter what their intentions.

Even after I stood away from it, I noticed her looking out the window. WTF?

*smirk* Yeah, this is true. Considering where I was, I wouldn't have been surprised if she came at me with something like that!

 I need to take you with me on Tuesday.

My first impulse was to say something like, "Problems? With this fence? No, ma'am, I'm in engineering. I can safely say it'd take the weight of three thousand elephants and one ostrich to knock this baby down! Go back inside and enjoy your cofee, I'll keep watch"

That'll do the trick, too. You don't need me on tuesday, but If we met we could have ALOT of fun, but don't fence me in.

Man - if this lady lives across from a University AND an elementary school she's probably used to all kinds of vandalism, disrespect and problems. I live across the street from a high school, so sadly I can kind of relate to this woman.

Though YOU were not being a problem - it's hard to look at one young person just standing around without thinking problems may ensue - probably has paranoia due to past experience.

I mean her behavious must have a reason behind it - if not - then she's just an unpleasant bitch  Could go either way.

I live about.... ten seconds away from my old elementary school, which had a pretty bad reputation in terms of student behaviour (believe me, I know! The kids sucked), but I don't recall any problems in the neighbourhood with it. The only thing "we" got in trouble for was visiting the rival school down the road. LOL.

I guess she could've been paranoid, but I'll admit, I'm naturally the same way, so two defensive people coming together doesn't exactly make for a picnic.

Oh I hear ya - and I probably would have reacted the same way, only I would have said something snarky to her -then felt bad about it later. Ugh.

Gotta say, that after a couple of bad experiences with the evil high-schoolers across the street, I'm sorry I was not more sympathetic to your situation....:o
