rosanne cash

any rosanne cash fans here? i've had her newest album, black cadillac, for a while, but i didn't really listen to it all the way through until tonight. i am totally blown away by & in love with her. her voice reminds me of melissa etheridge's, without melissa's raspy edge.

anyway, i highly recommend this album - i don't think there's a single track i don't love.

Ooh good to know! I've been curious about the album - and I've always been fascinated by Roseanne Cash - but have never actually heard any of her stuff :o

I will check this album out!

Sweet I'll see if we have it at work tomorrow - I've discovered that our station has some amazing music...I hope we have it....if not then well it's Amazon time :p

You know, speaking of Melissa Etheridge - I pulled her hair (on accident) once. And had a cup that I snatched off the stage after a concert - the one she was drinking out of :p

I used to be quite obsessed.

sweet! i'd love to see her in concert, but she hasn't been to cleveland in a while. i'm totally in love with lucky right now.

Well I just checked out snippets of the RC album - you're right, I can hear the Melissa-esqueness in her voice - esp in that God is the Roses song or whatever.

I definitely have to pick this up now

Melissa is AWESOME in concert. When I saw her, I couldn't listen to her cds for a good 6 months - she totally outdid herself...it was one of the best live performances I've ever seen.

Rosanne is in my top five favorites EVER. She is awe inspiring. And her husband is one of the greatest record producers on earth. Carrie, you have great taste ! Shawn and Rosanne ! I LOVE Black Cadillac. "Burn Down This Town" is an excellent barn burner, "Like Fugitives" is an awesome, vengeful slink of a song, and "Dreams Are Not My Home" is one of the best songs she has ever penned. The record is a little down in spots - hey, it's about 3 dead parents, but it is ultimately uplifting and triumphant. Probably her best record. Which is something when you consider King's Record Shop and The Wheel.
I saw her in a tiny club here in LA on tour once and she was spectacular. You'd never expect her to be so beautiful in person. And sweet as hell. So glad you are a fan ! Have you ever hear the complete Interiors sessions ? I have a master cd of it with 2 extra tracks, a live "This World" and an acoustic "What We Really Want." PM me if ya want.

Melissa is on par with Tina Turner in energy as a performer. There are few things live that have the electricity of "Like The Way I Do" in concert. It rivals the 70's Rhiannon performances in sheer passion and craziness. Still. I kind of had a falling out with Melissa's voice a few years ago. All of a sudden, it became too much for me - too over the top. But I will come around again I am sure. I have seen her lots of times and luckily about 6 years ago got to decorate a backstage xmas party for her in LA. Nutty. Again, a very sweet person. Absolutely sincere and down to earth. I do love the woman.

I am so thankful to have met her. She is the real deal with a lot of guts and talent and I was thrilled to tell her that.:blob1:

I like Rosanne Cash. But her voice is a little bland for me. I think however that the opening track to the "Black Caddillac" is damn awesome!

i can see how her voice can seem kind of vanilla, but her songwriting more than makes up for it. for some artists, their voice is the showcase. that just isn't the case with her. so have you heard all of black cadillac, or have you just heard the song?

I have heard the entire album while I was working, but that first track is the one that really stuck with me. Actually, I wish I had it right now. I am going to borrow the album from work (along with that Cyndi DVD) on saturday...

do it!

and while we're on the topic of brilliant female singers, i want to express my deep love for neko case ... her voice is indescribably beautiful and powerful, and she knows exactly how to use it. i've got several of her albums and love all of them.

I have never heard a Neko Case song. I don't think she has ever released anything in New Zealand. I have only heard of her through this site....

Joan Armatrading is another brilliant female singer!....
