I'll wed when all can, Pitt says

September 9, 2006

NEW YORK -- Brad Pitt, ever the social activist, says he won't be marrying Angelina Jolie until the restrictions on who can marry whom are dropped.

''Angie and I will consider tying the knot when everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able,''
Pitt tells Esquire magazine.

Though their daughter Shiloh hogged much attention upon her birth in May, the actor says he ''cannot imagine life'' without adopted children Maddox, 5, and Zahara, 1.

''They're as much of my blood as any natural born, and I'm theirs,'' Pitt says. ''That's all I can say about it. I can't live without them. So, anyone considering [adoption], that's my vote.'' AP

I read that too...seems odd to me because its almost as though he thinks by making this pronouncement, Governments will be forced to change their laws or something....so, realistically, they will never marry

I just read it as a political statement. I'm sure he has a big ego, but I doubt he thinks his one statement will give us gay marriage.

I think it's great to have someone of this popularity making a strong statement against marriage discrimination. Usually people stay as far away from that issue as possible.

I didn't expect Brad Pitt to be one to make that strong a pronouncement regarding same sex marriage, but I still remember his Tonight Show promo for one of his movies years ago when he portrayed going door to door to get people to watch that movie and he said he'd do "anything" to get this guy to see the movie. The next scene showed him in bed with the guy.

He might be banking on his popularity as an actor (and as a sex symbol even among straight men) to be a catalyst for turning the tide toward same sex marriage. Sometimes it takes the Hollywood types and the sports world to nudge people toward real change.

good for him. that takes balls and a very strong female partner (which Angie is, no doubt)

that makes 2 so far, right? Brad and Charlize Theron?

Somewhere...

Jennifer Aniston has to be laughing to herself.

^

Personally, I would be PISSED if my boyfriend told me something like that ... I think it's a cop-out on both of their parts.

diamondsnake 09-09-2006 02:49 PM

That is great. I think it is only a matter of time before same sex marriage is legal. But something needs to happen soon....

As far as Brad is concerned, I was just thinking that I have never actually seen a Brad Pitt movie. Unless you count Thelma and Louise.

a cop-out? i don't see how it's a cop-out ... it's just a statement. you don't need a marriage license to be committed ... gay people do it all the time.

Good one Brad  You'll never have to marry that bitch now. Smart man. He might as well have said, "When hell freezes over, I'll marry Angie"

DrummerDeanna 09-09-2006 03:33 PM

I think it's a really nice sentiment and I think Brad was ultimately trying to do something good.

Guess I'm not as cynical as I thought I was - but I say good for Brad..and I hope this pronouncement does open some eyes to the issue!
