Bach for Unaccompanied Violin

The Gigue from BWV 1004 (Partita No. 2 in D minor) played by Nathan Milstein & recorded in 1954:

The BWV 1004 score in Adobe PDF:

http://snipurl.com/v6xk

The Gigue starts on Page 4 of the PDF. The Sarabande is at the top of the page, so you have to scroll down to where the time signature becomes 12/8--that's where the Gigue starts & continues through Page 5.

David, you're WAAAAAY too eggheaded for me.....I have no clue what you're talking about. I guess because reading sheet music has always eluded me.

so, my hat's off to ya my friend! HUZZAH, you're a true audiophile. yay.

(Im sure you know the correct word, and will share it, because frankly I dont know how to look that bit of trivia up.)

See, Romy & I both love Bach, so I told her in another thread that I would upload some of my favorite Bach if she did the same. Don't worry about the score--you can just download the MP3 & listen to it. It's perfectly enjoyable without the score! But for those of you who want to follow along, I put the score up there too.

Of course, Romy is on Italy time so she's probably asleep or snoring right now ... which is what some people do when they hear Bach!

Thanks a lot David, also for the sheet music, I read notes badly but it's always fun to try.

I'm always glad to share some Bach. Since I don't know what you'd prefer I go for a a couple of classics (no Goukd since I suspect you already have everything) and a promise... and some LVB:

My favourite is Maisky but Yo-Yo Ma is great too:

I think Martha Argerich more than playing lived Partita n.2 in C Minor, here's Capriccio:

Probably you already know Gabriela Montero, but just in case:

Obviously it will be hard to keep your eyes open hearing this. :D

thanks for uploading that, david. i don't suppose you could upload the rest of that partita, could you? i've never heard milstein's interpretation, and i'd especially like to hear his take on the ciaccona. i've listened twice, and i'm not a huge fan of milstein's performance. i think it's too fast and aggressive, considering this is supposed to be a lighthearted dance. anyway, i really like this gigue. it's one of my favorite movements out of all the unaccompanied vln pieces.

here is hilary hahn's recording of the ciaccona: http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.ph...6514680A5A0F84

i would've posted yehudi menuhin's, since his is my favorite, but apparently i have lost my cd.

edit: i was going to record my own version of it, but i opened my violin case to find my A string is broken! and i am without a spare! what kind of a violinist has a spare G string but no A ... sheesh.

Cool stuff. For unaccompanied violin, eh? Sounds perfect for me

Thanks, David. Think I'll give these a go. I love Bach stuff.

i'm enjoying this thread. here is hilary hahn playing the C Major Unaccompanied Sonata: http://www.sendspace.com/file/iryl46

The file is named "Partita in C" but it's actually a Sonata. Whoops.
