Photo Editing Software?

So the Stevie thread has inspired me.

What photo editors do y'all use? I only have the cruddy one that comes with Microsoft office - and I can't see a way to do fun photo stuff with it....

Is there one that y'all use or can recomend? And I've never bought software in my life....where does one get this stuff??

I use Photoshop 6.0. It's pretty good, considering they're at like, what, Photoshop CS now? I'll tell you what the guy who gave me the disk for PS told me: You don't buy these things, you borrow. If you can find someone who has it, snag it from them. Actually buying Photoshop or one of those really good photo editing software thingys costs mucho dineros.

I wish I had heard this before I got PS cuz it is heinously expensive. but since I don't know anyone else with a MAC I might have had to buy it anyway.

but, I agree that PS is awesome.

How much did you shell out for it? :\

HomerMcvie 08-09-2006 09:11 PM

I use Photoshop 7.0(I think it's 7.0). I xxxxxstolexxxxx BORROWED it off Kazaa. Beware though, if you steal, or borrow it. Don't leave it in your shared folder. Adobe contacted my ISP, and threatened action against me, if I didn't delete it.

Of course I just pulled it out of the shared folder, and put it elsewhere, even though my ISP seriously told me to delete it.

 That scares the bejeezus out of me. So I can't go the Kazaa route otherwise I'd never sleep - I'd be sure the feds were inches from my doorstep just waiting to pounce.

Sooo...I'll ask around and hopefully obtain it the way I obtained my other ridiculously expensive software...by borrowing :D

Well, if I download something even remotely "scary", I make sure that I'm there to watch the download finish, then immediately yank it out of the shared folder, into a private one!

So that works? Does it make it less likely you'll get caught? I looked at there were many Photoshops on Limewire - they were zip and exe files - how do I know I"m not downloading something sketchy??

you can't get caught if they can't see your files, so it's all good. as for knowing how safe the files are... it's always risky, but i've never had any problems, and i've been file sharing for ... 6 or 7 years now.

AFAIK, "they" can only view files that are in your shared folder. Once you remove it from the shared folder, I don't BELIEVE they can access it(unless they're WAAAYY smarter than I;)  ;)) .
And yes, mine was an EXE program, of course, because you have to install it.
I had no problems with it. BUT, of course, downloading anything can be risky. Cheapness VS Risk. For me, saving $100 is worth the risk!!!

Are you on a high speed connection? I wonder if it would be possible to email the program to you, or would it be too big? (I'm certainly no technical expert on computers. I've just learned what I've learned through trial and error!).

I've got Photoshop CS which was horrendously expensive but I bought as a treat to myself. I went on an course one night a week for 10 weeks and that persauded me to splash out.

You can pick up cheap copies off Ebay if you're not too fussy where it comes from.

I need it to sort out my crap photos!

Photoshop Elements is much less expensive and has an awful lot of features on it.

I am on a high speed connection  And yeah - the risk is what concerns me...with my luck I'll download evil virus of death instead of Photoshop - although I guess that risk is just as great when I download music from Limewire.

Erm after this is resolved perhaps this thread should be erased  I'm SOOO paranoid...seriously.

If you are a college student you should be able to buy software at a really low price. I would see if you can find a student who can buy one for you at their college.
