Nostalgia.

I've been very reflective and nostalgic lately. Don't know why - guess it's the time of year..I miss getting new school supplies and clothes and the excitement of a brand new school year!

Anyway, this morning on my bike ride I passed by a high school and the kids were holding summer band. They were learning how to march and they appeared to be doing it the exact way my high school band used to...broken up into small groups while a section leader teaches freshman to march.

A big well of emotion and nostalgia came over me while watching - then I realized I probably looked creepy watching high school kids march around with a big smile on my face.

Also - on my bike ride I rode through some sprinklers (on purpose) and the smell/feel totally reminded me of when my grandma and I would go on summer morning walks and we'd go to a park and walk through the sprinklers..good times.

This time of year always makes me very nostalgic - there's a certain sadness attached as I realize those days are forever gone...

Anyone else nostalgic about anything?

I get nostalgic about EVERYTHING...ALL THE TIME. I'll hear a song or see something that reminds me of high school or when I first started going out and was "fresh meat" - and it makes me sad in a way, but happy to have those memories too I guess. I'm such a sappy sentimentalist.

Ah glad I'm not the only one  A lot of it is also that because of MySpace I've gotten back in touch with so many people from high school - lots of great memories. And no credit card bills...sigh.

OMG!!! Me toooo!!! During my move I revisited some of the notes -and then got an amazing surprise in my e-mail. A friend mine found one of our notes and scanned it and e-mailed it to me...we used to draw a lot in our notes  I'm going to have to scan one to get my full point across.

But yeah, I've got boxes of the notes I passed in class, band programs, medals etc...kind of sad really but I enjoy going back every now and again.

Bleh

I never get nostalgic about school, but about just being a kid....alllllll the time. The other day I was thinking about how I used to lay on the floor at night, and listen to the radio for hours on end. The lights on my old stereo looked like an airplane cockpit. My 9th birthday party was my favorite. Had it at a local skating rink (no longer there :( ) and this boy I liked was there in his little league outfit. Sigh....yeah, I miss being a kid.

Musically...

I am head in on a nostalgia trip (Right at this moment as I type this up I have Motley Crue blasting through 460W of JVC speakers within 3 feet on me-Really vibrates the hell outta the walls!!!!)

Seems that once my Mother passed from this worldly existence, my taste in music went immediately back to the music I grew up listening to during the mid-to-late 80's, With more modern heavy **** tossed in.

Maybe the change in music taste & my nostalgic trip has to do with that was the music of my life when my Mom was still here...And she liked it! Hell, She drove me to see Motley Crue/Whitesnake (Among others-And there were tons of others) in Tulsa in 1986, And waited out in the car in the parking lot while I rocked out.

My Mom was and will forever (Even in the afterlife) be a rocker!!!

i've been getting nostalgic a lot lately for two reasons. 1) i'm not going to school in the fall, and 2) my brother left for the army in june. i was driving up to my grandparents' house yesterday, and it hit me halfway there that he wasn't going to be there (he used to spend most of his summers there), and i started to cry. :(

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I thoroughly hated school, couldn't wait for it to be over, and have never missed it for a second. I hated every minute I lived at home with my parents. I can't even stand to visit.

I was a total basket case in junior high and high school. I wasn't popular and I had no friends. Ally Sheedy's character in The Breakfast Club? That was me. What's to be nostalgic about?

I have never, not even for a moment, felt nostalgic for my high school years. When I graduated, so many adults said to me, "in five years, you're going to wish you were back in school." It's been 16 years, and high school is still the last place I'd ever wish to be. Though if I had then, the kind of confidence I have now -- high school would have been a very different experience.

I do, however, sometimes feel nostalgic for times when my grandparents and other loved ones were still living, and things like that. I am VERY sentimental when it comes to those kinds of things.

I know what you're saying...I don't miss school necessarily, just the friends and **** I used to pull. I was fairly popular, in homecoming stuff all the time so I don't have horrid memories, but it's more about looking back at friendships, etc.

I will never...

be nostalgic for my school years...Abso-tively hated school, Which is ironic because I attended college/tech. school from 1988-1991 with only a 3 day gap between my high school graduation (Hehe, I refused to attend the HS graduation ceremony for my own selfish reason which was I preferred to spend the evening listening to music over pomp & popularity contest that was that ceremony-Yes, Pissed off my asshat of a guidance counselor since she even tried to bribe me to attend, But f**k her...My Mom understood my decision and never questioned it ever. I did take the cap & gown and donated it to a student who could not otherwise afford 'em) and the start of tech. school.
