The "Total Gym"

The Total Gym is the bench and resistance weights on that infomericial with Chuck Norris and Christie Brinkley. Has anyone heard anything positive or negative about it? Does anyone have it and like the results? I am thinking about getting one but I wanted to check around first. I've read mostly positive reviews about it. A friend of mine has it and she has really toned arms. I want toned arms!!!!!

My brother in law has one! When I lived with them I used to use it and I really liked it! It uses your own body weight, so you can get a really good workout - but it's also kind of easy to cheat. It comes with a great booklet though that shows you what to do - and what things work what and overall I thought it was a nice little machine.

I have one and when I use it, I like it. What I like most about it is the variety of exercises you can do - to target specific areas.

However, at the moment, the bench has boxes of photos, magazines and junk mail on it. I also have to step over it to get from the door to the computer.

it is an amazing piece of machinery. it really works and so low impact...all of a sudden one day you've got nice tone. it's well worth the money.

For real, Jason? Or are you pulling my leg? Or my future toned arm?

Thanks for the info, everyone!!

no, I'm serious. and it's got a zillion uses. you can use it to work every part of your body...don't have to deal with weight and all that. it's very smooth and you use your own body weight.

my mom, who's 5 feet tall and 90 pounds, bought it to tone up and she loves it.

You definitely do NOT want to order it from TV. I got mine at Academy - and paid about $200 for it. A couple years later, they sent me a new set of pullies and handles and cords and stuff - apparently, there was a safety issue w/ the original ones. But I haven't bothered to hook up the new ones yet, although they do appear to be stronger, with the reinforced cables instead of the heavy duty plastic ones that came with it.

I don't have one, but I used one when I was in physical therapy for my knees -- they put it on level 3 at first and then level 4 and I had to extend my knee from a 90 degree angle to straight and back down. It was a really intense workout, but it was totally worth it -- I still do all my therapy exercises at home and I wish I had one of those to do knee bends with without all the impact of doing it against a wall. Don't know anything about the rest of it, though.
