Singer tells People that he's in relationship with 'Amazing Race' winner

NEW YORK - Lance Bass, band member of 'N Sync, says he's gay and in a "very stable" relationship with a reality show star.

Bass, who formed 'N Sync with Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick, tells People magazine that he didn't earlier disclose his sexuality because he didn't want to affect the group's popularity.

"I knew that I was in this popular band and I had four other guys' careers in my hand, and I knew that if I ever acted on it or even said (that I was gay), it would overpower everything," he tells the magazine.

'N Sync is known for a string of hits including "Bye Bye Bye" and "It's Gonna Be Me." The band went on hiatus in 2002. Bass has also found headlines for undertaking astronaut training and failing to raise money for a trip into space.

Bass says he wondered if his coming out could prompt "the end of 'N Sync." He explains, "So I had that weight on me of like, 'Wow, if I ever let anyone know, it's bad.' So I just never did."


The singer says he's in a "very stable" relationship with 32-year-old actor Reichen Lehmkuhl, winner of season four of CBS' "Amazing Race."

Bass and Fatone, 29, are developing a sitcom pilot inspired by the screwball comedy "The Odd Couple," in which his character will be gay.

"The thing is, I'm not ashamed - that's the one thing I want to say," Bass says. "I don't think it's wrong, I'm not devastated going through this. I'm more liberated and happy than I've been my whole life. I'm just happy."

Good for Lance, but damn it because it's not Justin.

I'd been hearing rumours of an increasing amount of sightings of Lance and Reichen together, so I'm not really surprised by the revelation.

He seems like a sweet guy from the things I've seen him on (such as CBS's 'Game Show Marathon' from earlier this summer), and I give him a LOT of credit for coming out of the closet.
I'm happy for him. (Well, as happy as you can be for someone you've never met!)

:laugh: Only in show business is a relationship "very stable" after what, less than a year ? Hope it's more stable than the "marriage" Leichen had with that other guy from the reality show. It's comforting to know that celebrity homos are just as out of it as celebrity straight people. Does he talk about his cosmetic surgery in any of these articles ?

I can't picture Lance Bass in my head - I'll have to google him. The only N'Sync boys I'm even remotely familiar with are Timberlake and Fatone.

Good for Lance for coming out though - sad that it took so long, and sad that he felt (probably rightly so) that coming out sooner would have brought about the end of N'Sync...weren't they a Disney creation?

I'm glad he finally came out. Him and Reichen's man sharing and frequent spottings at gay bars was getting ridiculous.

I don't follow him, so I'm not 100% sure -- I think he's done a few movies, and he took part in that CBS summer game show series I mentioned (where the celebs were playing classic game shows, like 'Match Game,' to win money for their favorite charities).
