Myspace is down?

I haven't been able to get on all day and last night too.

Anyone else?

Miss Vicky 07-23-2006 01:44 PM

I haven't had any problems logging in.

HomerMcvie 07-23-2006 03:11 PM

Last night, I could log onto SOME friends accounts. For others, I was denied(said it was doing maintenance).

Janet 07-23-2006 03:28 PM

It won't let me in at all. Not since last night. I have tried numerous times.

That's really weird.

I had the problem last night, but today has been ok. I was so pissed last night too because I had a new friend to add!

Just checked mine and there is a message about a power failure in LA that caused all of the problems. They are in the process of fixing everything now.

MySpace code sucks. When the site works I love it. They really need to rebuild it though. It needs a complete overhaul.

I thought the power outage excuse was dubious because public sites always have backup power. Apparently MySpace had an ad that was putting spyware on user's computers. This may be the real reason for the shut down which is still in place!

MySpace closed after power outage

MySpace, the world's most popular social networking website, has been shut down after a power outage. Visitors to the website are greeted with a game of Pacman and a message saying the service hoped to be back up and running by 0400 PST (1200 BST).

An earlier message on the website said it was "undergoing maintenance" and pledged to be back within the hour.

MySpace, which lets users create a personalised homepage, has more than two million visitors each month.

There was no indication on the website as to what had caused the power outage at the data centre for the service.

A MySpace spokesman told BBC News: "The data centre that MySpace and other companies use to host their sites has suffered from a power failure.

"Its engineers are working to solve the problem, and we hope it will soon be up and running again. In the meantime we apologise to our users for any inconvenience caused."

The website was bought by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp for $580m last July after it proved to be a huge success with youth audiences online.

The closure of the service, albeit temporarily, will be a blow for News Corp and MySpace in such a competitive environment.

Bebo, one of MySpace's keenest rivals, has been catching MySpace in terms of audience numbers in recent months.

A number of MySpace users have posted comments on other blogging services - such as Live Journal and Wordpress - about the temporary closure of the site.

Vanessa Evans, sales and marketing manager at internet infrastructure firm Linx, said companies typically took steps to ensure a power outage would not topple a website.

"Data centres usually have the ability to connect to at least two power sources so that they can switch in case one source is lost.

"I would be surprised for any large company taking space on a data centre which did not have this option."

Ms Evans said that while she could not comment on the MySpace problem directly, she said many companies hosted information at more than one data centre.

ryan8472 07-24-2006 11:11 AM

Yeah it works again...

Damn. I was really liking that Pacman game. :D

madformac 07-24-2006 11:17 AM

Mfm...

I saved my code in Microsoft Word in case something happened. I just checked my page and there was only one little blip. I was lucky, I guess. Everyone should save their code in case this happens again, which it probably will. :(

I save it once a month.. Just happens I've totally changed it twice this month already.

Looks like 3 times now... Tossers..

SuzeQuze 07-24-2006 12:01 PM

My code is still there but it was simple, I don't know if that makes a difference. Probably not, they probably just hadn't backed up the site since your last change Justin. Tossers. Hehe, love that word.

DrummerDeanna 07-24-2006 12:52 PM

I couldn't access MySpace all weekend - but I'm not having any issues today - and my page still looks the same :D

Considering who owns the site and how much it's worth they really should be able to offer something that isn't breaking down all the time. Damn site is so quirky - but I'm shamelessly addicted.
