What does it mean?

Ohh you're a dream
Hide your head in the sand
You're far away, when I want you around
And you leave me lonely when I'm feeling down

Do your ever wonder, or worry about me
Did I ever love you, did you ever love me
Do your ever wonder, or worry about me
Did I ever love you, did you ever love me

Why is it baby, our love just won't grow
You made me happy but time has gone by
Please leave me softly, I won't say goodbye
So all I wanted slips through my hands
You're far away when I want you around
And you leave me lonely when I'm feeling down

Do your ever wonder, or worry about me
Did I ever love you, did you ever love me
Do your ever wonder, or worry about me
Did I ever love you, did you ever love me

it's about being in love with someone that isn't able to fill ur needs... you would rather break up and face the pain than be lonely in the relationship...

I must preface my comments by saying that I love and respect both John and Christine dearly and that on the whole they are both a class act - far more so than any of the other members of Fleetwood Mac with the exception of Bob Welch.

That said, the lyrics of "Did You Ever Love Me" along with "Why","Come a Little Bit Closer","Dissatisfied",etc. lay open the sad, dysfunctional relationship which the McVies shared.

IMHO John, while charming and cute in his own way, always struck me as shy and far from a ladies man. He was someone who would feel much more comfortable going out and knocking down a few pints with his buddies at a pub. Later, when he could afford it, he took up sailing and spent countless hours alone on his boat.

Christine, a self-professed homebody, just wanted someone who would settle down with her in a life of domestic bliss. Membership in a rock and roll band would preclude this and the depression brought on by the excessive intake of alcohol and other substances sealed the fate of their ill-starred relationship.

The magic of Fleetwood Mac is how personal tragedy from Peter Green on down has been channeled into the great music which we all enjoy.

Cheers! :xoxo:

I pretty much agree with you. I think John & Chris had a great musical compatability, as well as being compatable as friends. But I think in other ways, they were complete & total opposites. You can easily see this in many of John's answers in his Q & A.

I think this song & many of her songs from this time period are about the problems in their marriage. She has said that only about half of her songs were personal, but I think during this time period most of her songs were VERY personal.
