Live Aid/Live 8
 

Does anyone know why the band wasn't involved in either of these events?

I have both DVD sets, and I was watching the Dire Straits kick @$$ performance from Live Aid thinking it would be great if FM had a segment on the DVDs.

Sorry if this was discussed around the time of Live 8. I was away from the board at that time and I can find a thread about it in the archives. I haven't posted in a while, so I thought I would.

I was wondering the same thing. It would have been great to see Stevie or the Mac at Live 8.

I was thinking that, too. Live 8 would have been a perfect opportunity for Christine to rejoin the band for a one-off. Its a two-three song gig in London. But nope. Oh well, maybe Live 16 will happen in 2025. *Thinks of 80 year old Stevie* *Runs*

LMAO - It could be quite hard to juggle a cane and a tabourine and move at all in those boots at 80!

Well, the original Live Aid was the summer of 1985 I believe. The band wasn't working together at that point, Stevie was wrapping up the recording of her Rock A Little album which came out in the fall of 85 - so that's why they didn't play at the original Live Aid I'm sure. Not sure what the other members were up to that year.

Could the fact that their was no money involved be a factor?;) :D :wavey:

Well, neither was Zeppelin, but they found a way to do the show.

No money? Are you kidding? Yes, they don't get paid to do a 4 song set but the amount of public awerness raised from the event is huge. Every band, artist whatever have either grown in popularity (ie sold more records made more money) are re-gained past popularity. Theres no doubt that everyone that preformed has gained more money because of the event. (respectable of Pink Floyd to donate all the money, but there the only ones.)

I for one are quite glad the Mac did not contribute to this. The whole thing seemed to trival. No offence to Bob Geldof his heart is in the right place and he trully does care but as for everyone else... well I have lost a lot of respect for them. The bands that played had no political awareness what so ever. The whole thing was supposed to raise awareness for those is africa, did it? Well for about a week, if that. The only awareness it raised was for those artists that are now enjoying more income. Makes me sick that people use other peoples missfortune to fuel there greed.

What Live 8 did for africa was very minute. People just forget all about the troubles in africa yet remember the big, pretentious, glamouress concert in London.

Live 8 = Nostigla acts and/or opportunitists after some cash. Thank god the Mac didn't contribute to the patheticness that live 8 was.

Tom, just look at FM's ticket prices, in comparison to Tom Petty, etc, who have reasonable priced tickets.
They don't care one iota about the little man. It's all about the bank account, and ego stroking. A big cash cow(or sheep, if you prefer).:D

Do you live somewhere where you can't get them?

I definitely recommend picking them up if you can find them/afford them. I mean, I don't watch them a lot, but some of the performances are really great. A great addition to any music DVD collection IMHO.

the main idea behind live aid was to make MONEY,bob geldof said he wanted specifically bands/artists who were hot at the time and told them play the hits,that´s what keeps the big audience interested through the day which in turn keeps the money rolling in.
and bloody hell,it did raise awareness,it´s been 21 years and everybody knows why the event happened and the situation is in the back of the mind
of all people,who does what for it,is up to each individual.
all the performers did a great job,their only job was to play,that´s all.
remember that david bowie gave a part of his time to show the film of those about to die.
i understand that bill graham had a big part in choosing the american performers,what was fleetwood mac´s relationship to him?

live 8 was to raise awareness for that one day,not to get money.
and REMEMBER it did matter,one of those children who were about to die at the time of live aid was on stage at live 8
and she herself said "do remember,your action does matter"

live aid and live 8 were fantastic events,
i hope many of you have taken part,either in one or both,
if you buy live aid dvd,the money will help,today!
