Songs you have been searching for in vain

I think we all have them. Songs that you always look for whenever you are connected to a peer-to-peer network, but can never find. These are mine:

Barracuda - Ain't No Big Deal (This was a song slated to be on Madonna's first album. But Barracuda, who I have read were an all-female disco act, released the song first. So the song Holiday was put on the album instead)
Dale Bozzio - Simon Oh Simon (Dale was the lead singer for Missing Persons. In 1988 she released a solo album, and this was the first single.)
Walter Egan - Sisters of the Moon
Ian Matthews - Crying in the Night

Mary Wilson - Red Hot (This Supremes member made a solo album in 1979, also titled Red Hot. And to bring things full circle, Mary Wilson was offered the song "Holiday" before Madonna! She turned it down.)

Good idea for a thread, sorry I can't offer any of the tracks on you list. My own want is for Mighty Groundhogs - Earth Is Not Room Enough

Oh yeah, and the theme from an English show I saw around mid-1980s called Swalk which was a bit like Mental Hopscotch.

I loved Missing Persons' Mental Hopscotch when I was a teen.

Gosh - had you started this thread weeks ago I'd have a whole list - but I've managed to find most of the songs I was looking for..namely a song called "Laughing Wild" by Julianna Raye.

However, in peer to peer I ALWAYS look for songs from "A Smoky Mountain Christmas" - during the early Napster days someone had taken all the music from the movie and uploaded it there....so I used to have all those songs - but they are now long gone...it was long ago before cd burners were common :(

So that's my quest...

"Curried Soul" (AKA, the theme to "As It Happens") by Moe Koffman.

Anything by Nikki & the Corvettes.
The Blue Van's cover of "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag."
Heart's cover of "Black Dog."
Tooons of Sonics and 13th Floor Elevators.
Anything by Nico.

There are some early Sonics here...

There are actually two versions of this song available. A studio version of it was released in 2000 - in the U.S. on a disc called "The Lost Album" and in the U.K. on a disc called "Mad Dog - The Lost Album." Both appear to be out of print but can still be found used on Ebay and Amazon.

A live version of it, which to my knowledge is still in print and available, was released in 2004 on a disc called The Meaning of Live.

I've previously posted a 2 minute clip of it, but since it does seem to be out of print and Walter therefore can't make any money from it, I'll go ahead and post the studio version. I still urge people to buy the actual cd, however, which features guest performances by Lindsey Buckingham, Christine McVie, and Jackson Browne.

Walter Egan's Sisters of the Moon

I'll only leave it up for a little while though, since it takes up too much space on my server.

No prob. Although as much as I love Walter, it's not one of my favorite songs. I still think it's strange for a man to sing it.

I've been stressing a little trying to figure out how to write a good pitch/query letter to send out to literary agents for my book, and am sort of sliding back into the "it needs more work" frame of mind about the whole project. I keep doing this. I'll work on it, decide it's finished, take a step towards getting it published, then decide it's not finished and go back to working on it again, "And that just reinforces my faith in cycles."

BTW, are you on My Space? I just recently set up a page there and am looking to add more friends.

I hope you find some Walter there, and I don't think you can really go wrong with any of his stuff (except maybe the Brooklyn Cowboys, ugh) but I'm not biased or anything. :)

Well, maybe I'll let you read the book, since Josh never gave me any feedback (and it's been over a month! grrrr) and the last person who read it wasn't very constructive in his feedback. He had three things to say: a) he didn't like my ending (Too bad, not changing it!!!) b) he felt that I should make the book a first in a series about the characters (Nope, not doing sequels. Sequels suck.) c) he couldn't believe that a woman wrote it. Not helpful at all!

Miss Vicky 06-18-2006 07:06 PM

So, Vermicious knid, what do think of Walter's 'Sisters'?

Im going to try the "Not Shy/Fundamental Roll" double pack, but if there is anything else really cheap - I will pick that up too :D

I would love to read your book!! I wonder where Josh is, have not seen him for a while...
