Thrift Stores

I used to be one of those people that thumbed my nose at these types of places. Not that I have a great deal of money or anything, but I just had a negative image of used clothes and who might've worn them. Well, I'm a convert. Mom found these like $75 dollar pair of sandals for $10, barely used! So I went over to the Salvation Army store near me and I'm looking at getting a set of 3 chairs for $20. And they're not in bad condition.

I love thrift stores. Vintage clothes without the "vintage" price tag. Where's my Curty.....

Love garage sales too.

I'm a knitter, and the best thing about thrift stores is being able to recycle sweaters. Last time, I bought two incredibly ugly sweaters for $5- the construction was awful, but the colors and the quality of the wool was fantastic. When I ripped them apart, I had an amount of wool that would've cost at LEAST $75.

I loooove recycling sweaters. And you can find these amazingly terrible crochet & knitting pattern books from the 70s for pennies.

Very resourceful. I like that.

I love garage sales. there aren't many good vintage stores here, but I love to get up early on a Saturday and go to all the "rich" areas of town to estate or garage sales. I haven't really found a great find yet, but it's fun.

I snagged a black 100% cashmere 3/4 length coat from an estate sale, looks to be from the 60's to me. I got it for $10. :D

I LOVE thrift stores and garage sales :blob1: Again, used to HATE them when my grandma used to drag me to them...but man oh man.

And actually a thrift store saved me recently.

Due to my horrid eating habits (and lack of gym motivation) I have gained weight - and therefore no longer fit into any of my summer clothes from last year. So after being horribly depressed for a time, I went to a thrift shope, found two pairs of shorts, a skirt and a lovely top - all for like $10!!! SO now at least I have somethingto wear in the warm weather...

I noticed knitting seems to be making a comeback. Saw a couple of knitting shows on DIY network, (surfing and saw them). They had younger people on it. Looks very complicated to me.

Hello! :(

Almost everything I wear comes from thrift stores. We have an excellent one here- love it! It's almost like I could never buy anything new again. I'll even buy shoes and then sterilize the hell out of them. I used to be a really popular size 6, sometimes 8 (*SOB*) so I always had no problems finding great stuff. Now that I'm a big fatty fat non-smoker, I don't know. Wish me luck. :distress:

Does anyone shop consignment shops? I mostly consign my things (I have made some some decent $$!) but I also browse through to see if I can find something to buy, too. I am trying ... in the past I've had a hard time wearing someone's else's clothes like that ... Tried it twice before and it didn't work.

Most of the thrift stores here aren't what they used to be, but I still love to pop in them from time to time. Some of my favorite clothes have been from thrift shops, the whole "vintage/worn" thing just appeals to me.
