Happy End Of the World!

It has trickled down to me (as Reagan always promised) that according to a reactionary, hippie-baiting and fear mongering media... today is an auspicious date for calamity to ensue and give civilisation as we know it a good what for! 6/6/06.

Can't you just feel the electricty of sheer apathy in the air? Well, because I am the last person left without a personal 'blog' I am inflicting my thoughts about this major event with extended coverage. Any good breaking news event needs a special soundtrack as well as snazzy logos and expert guests, but because I have no logos or guests here is my soundtrack for 6/6/06...

It's The End Of the World - R.E.M.
Eve Of Destruction - Barry McGuire (known hippie)
In The Year 2525 - Zager & Evans (unknown hippies)
Party At Ground Zero - Fishbone
Dancing With Tears In My Eyes - Midge Ure
Earth Is Not Room Enough - The Mighty Groundhogs
If Tomorrow Never Comes - Garth Brooks
It's The End Of the World - R.E.M. (again)
In A Gadda Davida - Iron Butterfly

Calamity is actually very likely to ensue, as this is voting day. :( Electricity of sheer apathy, indeed!

Now, where is our supreme lord and master, Brian J.?? Perhaps celebrating.

becca 06-06-2006 12:44 PM

California Earthquke - Cass Elliot (a big hippy)
Armagiddeon Time - The Clash
Click Click - The (English) Beat
Safe In My Garden - Mamas And Papas (hippie-o-meter overheating)
Sands Of Time - Fleetwood mac
One Hundred Years From Now - Gram Parsons with The Byrds (hippy dector blows fuse)
Planet Earth - Duran Duran

For your hippy-o-meter, not that you answered me, but

I'll be voting mostly green today.

becca 06-06-2006 12:58 PM

Uh oh, wasn't the Green getting all the blame in previous elections? You must be one of those anarchist hippies. I lived in Seattle for awhile so I know these things.

I really did try to get my Mom to believe that it was hippies that stole my lunch on my way to school when I was little. That's how far back this is rooted in my psyche.

Just notice the obvious Black Panther salute in that propagandist photo! Have to find a suitable MC5 song for my list...

amber 06-06-2006 01:03 PM

Yes. Supporting environmental sustainability and social justice is ruining our elections!!!!

And of course it's a Black Panther salute, I live in Oakland.

Wow, that would make such a great bumper sticker. Almost worth getting a car for!

You're right! I don't have a car, but as soon as I can afford my hybrid, I'll stick it on there.
Wait - this is Berkeley, I work for a printer, there's about a billion hybrids here...I should sell that bumper sticker! Great idea, thanks becca.

becca 06-06-2006 01:21 PM

"Make posters and stickers, not exhaust!"

"The end of the world is n-ACK! AAAAARGH!!!!!"

"All you need is glue."

"Bed Peace. Hair Piece."

"Honk if you hate noise pollution."

There're a million of 'em

You forgot "Black Sabbath" by Black Sabbath. That is the doomiest song I've ever heard:

Black Sabbath

What is this that stands before me?
Figure in black which points at me,
Turn 'round quick and start to run,
Find out I'm the chosen one
Oh, No!

Big black shape with eyes of fire,
Telling people their desire
Satan sitting there he's smiling,
Watches those flames get higher and higher
Oh, No, No please God help me!

Is it the end, my friend?
Satan's come around the bend,
People running 'cos they're scared
Ya people better go and beware
No! No! Please! No!

That goes for just about any early Sabbath song -

Into The Void
Children of the Grave
Wheels of Confusion
Behind the Wall of Sleep
Hand of Doom
Looking For Today
Killing Yourself to Live...

You get the picture

Yeah but in my opinion, B.S. is the doomiest. That was my point .

isnt that weird? We watched "Underworld Evolution" this morning then I started to get anther massive headache...So I've been asleep until just 10 minutes ago.

Doesnt help matters that it is over 100 outside, Thank God for the AC.

becca 06-06-2006 02:21 PM

Eep. Scary lyrics. That is the song for today alright. I only remember Iron Man and Paranoid off the top of my head though. Somebody dropped some fast food wrappers on our yard today. I am certain that this is only the first sign of the beginning of the evil times foretold by Pat Robertson, and also Chef Boyardee (in his dangerously radical autobiography 'Aah, you like-a the pasta, eh?').

Is there anybody still left out there? Be careful, tell those close to you how you really feel!!! Don't end up feeling foolish because you scoffed on this day of reckoning.
