First Time Stevie Wore Black Chiffon and Top Hat
What was the first time Stevie wore black chiffon & a top hat--her Welsh witch clothes--on Fleetwood Mac tours?
It was after August 1975 (when she wore jeans & blouse onstage) & before Thanksgiving week 1975 (when she wore Welsh witch clothes at the Sacramento Municipal Auditorium, the San Jose Performing Arts Center & San Francisco's Winterland). Let's really try to pinpoint the date. It's very important to us Stevie fans, is it not? It's important to me & many others. What sorts of research can we attempt? Does anyone know Stevie well enough to ask her to check her journals? Or maybe Margi knows--has it written down somewhere. Stew, I'm going to rely on you as much as if not more than on others because you have a research gene in your DNA. |
Fascinating question. Detective work! Surely we can get an answer to this between us.

She wore black chiffon for the September (?) Carbondale, IL concert.

If Torri's still around, maybe we can ask her where she got that dating--I think she bought those negs from someone. They're outstanding photos. It's just the look of show that I'd love to have a big-ass video of, n'est-ce pas? Put a whole show like that on dual-sided DVD, along with liner notes by Ken Tucker of the Philadelphia Enquirer & color photos from the band's summer 1976 tour of stadiums, & you have an EXCELLENT product to sell via your official Mac Web site. We have photos from the San Diego 1975 outdoor gig (purportedly Balboa Stadium) & Stevie is wearing jeans. Plus we have the Landover indoor show with Stevie in jeans, although the month of that show is in dispute. Personally, I don't think it's October. I think it's August. But I also have photos from various November gigs, like Sacramento Municipal Auditorium, San Jose Performing Arts Center & San Francisco Winterland, & Stevie is in top hat & black--although it looks more like black satin rather than her later black chiffon. Incidentally, all the live photos in the Tusk tourbook are from either the summer 1978 tour or from earlier (1975-1977) tours. They're misidentifying photos once again over on the Seven Wonders board, so look out! |
I must admit this is a fascinating discussion.

Hey David...
Yeah, still around...the negatives were a gift in '81...the dude saw I was a Stevie fan when my ex-husband was enlarging the Bella Donna poster for me in black and white (Dave was a professional photographer at the time)...he could have cared less and was throwing them away (!)...so they worked out a trade...he couldn't remember the date or the place (it was the 70's!...he knew he was a student-Carbondale, Peoria, Normal?) ;)...so we totally guessed when we gave these to Marty and Lis to share...later, I came across a poster on ebay...of them playing Peoria, IL...Glen Oak Park, I think...and I do believe it was 1976...you're good! :) ...of course, I can't find the copy of the poster that I meant to keep (although I may have sent it to Marty and Lis at the time)...so who knows for sure...although June rings a bell...anyhoo, a DVD would be sweet!...
Torri P.S...Hi hayley! :wavey: |

Lessee, I check my tourdates list (a whopper, by the way), & I see that the band played Peoria IL on June 26, 1976. So maybe the pics were shot on this date. Who knows? But I do prefer the 1976 date for these rather than the 1975 date, judging by Chris's rig & Stevie's hair & clothes. Wonderful, wonderful pics--they remind me of the great live pics from 1976 that Jim Welander shot. |
