Teri Hatcher "Burnt Toast"

Just got the book today.. and watching her on Oprah right now! I can't wait to start reading! I have a new found respect for her after finding out about the sexual abuse and her going forward about it.. because of that he is behind bars! Anyway.. I just love this woman and wanted to let everyone know about the book! :)

Oh, I thought someone was making fun of her skin quality when I read the title.

Yeah, it's a shame she went through that, it sounds like it was really debilitating for her in some ways, so I'm glad she came forward as well. Usually if you work on things and talk about them it helps resolve them more quickly in your psyche.
I think she's quite charming, actually - let us know how the book is.

From another standpoint, I don't WANT to know this sort of thing about some people. I think everyone is a victim nowadays...and then writes a book about it. Good grief--some things are better kept between family! Life is SO tough isn't it? In no way am I condoning what happened to Teri, it's awful. Maybe telling the world about it in print is Teri's way of healing...along with making a few hundred thousand dollars on the deal. See my point?

There are far, far worse ways to make money than a famous person talking about sexual abuse. And why should it be kept among family? It's nothing for anyone but the person who did it to be ashamed of. That's why this thing perpetuates so much, is silence.
I think her book is about other stuff, too, though, right?
Yes, I see your point, but I don't really agree in this particular case.

Well it isn't actually ALL about the abuse.. it's about her life in general.. from everything to being a mom, at one point a has-been and struggling actress, and even things to plastic surgery and being an older actress in hollywood.

And like Oprah just said.. when she first heard about the book she though "oh great, another celeb has written a book oh boy".. but when she read it she just thought it was awesome!

and if Oprah likes it.. ;)

She doesn't talk about it in the book. She had the book written already and then came out with her story. She did this because a young girl committed suicide after being abused by the same man. She didn't want him to have any more victims.

I'm going to possibly coin a phrase...I think it's "exploitation of victimization"...that's how I see it. There are things that have happened to me in my own life that have been just as "terrible" but I choose to only tell certain people. I'm aware it's not healthy to bottle it all in...I just don't feel the whole world needs to know about it. It doesn't define who you are.

Oooh....holy crap. Well I apologize for my lack of knowledge on the whole subject, and I stand corrected.

Maybe it defined who she was. Also, of course everyone has terrible things, but people don't necessarily want to read about what happened to joe shmoe, whereas they do want to read about famous people. So your average joe shmoe doesn't talk about it, and your average famous person is around to give issues more nationwide exposure. They're already famous and attention needy, so to me a book is just an extension of that. Also, as I now read, the book isn't about that, so it really is just a case of a famous person writing a book because they can. But it looks like this book isn't about victimization, so you should be happy about that. :)

amber...good point, and I see your argument. And yes, I'm am an average joe...ha! Actually, what happened to me when I was younger (we'll leave it at that) has helped other people in my life as well. So these sorts of things are curses, and blessings.

Boy I missed that part!

I should know this though (being a huge Teri fan).. ;)

Thanks Suze for clearing it up!

See! that's good you helped someone. :)

You know, not to be unpleasant, but I think everybody and their mom should be talking about the subject, because literally, I am the only person I know (including boys) who hasn't been molestered. (Not counting Ledgies that I know, because I don't know those things about them. Just all my regular friends in my life) That's pretty effing ridiculous, dont you think?

Molestered? I'm sure you are indeed the only person not molestered.

Sorry, I watch too much South Park. The one where they told the police all their parents had molestered them, so they could run the town.
