Fall from grace pitch

Hi everyone :xoxo:

This is something i dont normally notice, and to me a little unusual for Stevie. I was just listening to Fall from Grace from Universal City 26/07/05. this song at then end i just heard stevie i think dedicating it to her god children at some other people i couldn't tell as im at work and turned it up as loud as my little desk computers would let me and i still couldn't decipher what stevie said. ANYWAY, thats not what this is about. When stevie sings the part:

Maybe i am calmer now, maybe things are fine....etc i noticed that she seems to relax her voice and sings it a bit higher... so i then went to the Trouble in Shangri La version and yes the live one from last year is sung higher than the studio version...

Maybe i'm the last ledgie to notice this... i've just sort of acepted that usually Stevie's live performances are done in a "safer" key and vary from the studio, so i wanted to share my little eye opener.

Ok i've stopped yapping now.....

Is it? I do wonder so much what different parts in songs are about. Its a fabulous song i so agree! And i especially love how she gets right into it live! Just so much better when her songs are sung with passion!

Hey Janice ;) I was at that Universal City show!! My friends and I, since we live a little too close by ;) I have that show on dvd, and yes, I noticed it too.....no matter what though, for me, that song is FABULOUS!!!!! :]

The 05 version was a complete let down IMO. The whole song builds to that last verse...the last line.."Just to make sure you SURVIVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEE". Totally ruined it for me.

I do too. It's my favourite song of Stevie's to sing at karaoke.

im a little the same... she really BLURTS it out, like spits it at the mic. Whereas the rest of the song isn't as excitingly sung as a few years ago, though i do enjoy it as i see she is

Same key on both: A minor

I think the whole premise that all the keys are dropped in a live setting for Stevie is exaggerated. Maybe one or two songs are dropped, but I would say most of the songs are in the keys they were recorded in or in the keys they've been performed in for many years. Stop Dragging My Heart was definitely dropped to a lower key for the 2001 tour (lower than both the studio track & the way she had done it live for many years). But most of her songs are still where they always were, including Outside the Rain, Dreams, Rhiannon, Gold Dust Woman, Stand Back, Landslide, Beauty & the Beast, I Need to Know, Has Anyone Ever, Sara, Silver Springs & Gypsy.

They used to do If Anyone Falls in G major, but someone would have to post a snip of last year's for me to hear whether it was dropped.

I was disapointed in Vegas....as great as the rest of FFG was...that she didn't hit the high note then either. That was quickly made up for however, by the glory of the Stand Back high kick that nearly gave me an aneurism.

fall from grace = one big mess

let's hear it for candle bright (or any other sheryl crow produced TISL track) :woohoo:

David who is knowledgable about all things Stevie....

i cannot disagree with you about.... well anything!

i dont know about A or G majors/minors or any technical musical info, just sounded higher to my untrained ears...

it's easy. when you play the MP3, run over to your piano or guitar & find the tonic to which all else resolves & voila! you have pinned down the key.

White chocolate ice cream is superior to any flavor of sherbet.

A minor is when all resolves to the A-C-E triad. See? It's easy!! :blob2:  :] :D :o

I was a little disappointed in that as well. the only saving grace to that part, to me, is that the harmony that erupts in the high note's place.

Just the other day, i was watching that searing performance of Fall From Grace on the Blockbuster Awards in 2001. That was so much fun, & yes my eyes did water when Stevie gave her acceptance speech about creating little worlds for us to tag along to. Would you believe it, I'm actually proud of Stevie at such moments. I want to give her a hug.

(but I don't touch her any more after many years ago her antique bracelet cut the top of my hand during her Edge walk)
