Stephen Colbert Roasts Bush at White House Press Corps Dinner

This is a must see!

His commentary includes statements like "Reality shows a clear, liberal bias."

The roast itself was awesome - the Helen Thomas video notsomuch. But it was great to see Shrub have to sit there and squirm, and Laura make sour faces and purse her lips until they almost sucked inside her head.

I watched the coverage on MSNBC Sat. night, and they did a split-screen in which half stayed on Colbert, and half focused on who was making the ugliest face. It was amazing and hilarious to watch.

It was also great that Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame - oops, I'm sorry I mean "Joe Wilson's wife" - were there, just feet away and laughing their ASSES off the whole time.

That takes balls... Colbert is my new hero! From what I've read, Bush wasn't very happy by the end of the speech. I almost felt sorry for him, that must have been tough to sit through.

I know! I was like, "Omigod, they really are there!"

"Somebody shoot me in the face. He really isn't here?"

Being President is hard work. Hard work.

And here's a transcript, for those (like me) who are Net connection-challenged:

It's just as funny and biting on paper.

Seriously, how does he even get his pants on?

Awwwwwwwwwww, poor Georgie. His "peelings" really *were* hurt...

And I love the bit below about the reviews of Dubya's act being better than Colbert's. If the press is too chicken**** to say anything bad about his policies, do they really expect them to say anything bad about his dumbass lowbrow comedy skits?

Skewering comedy skit angers Bush and aides
By Paul Bedard

Posted 5/1/06

Comedy Central star Stephen Colbert's biting routine at the White House Correspondents Association dinner won a rare silent protest from Bush aides and supporters Saturday when several independently left before he finished.

"Colbert crossed the line," said one top Bush aide, who rushed out of the hotel as soon as Colbert finished. Another said that the president was visibly angered by the sharp lines that kept coming.

"I've been there before, and I can see that he is [angry]," said a former top aide. "He's got that look that he's ready to blow."

Colbert's routine was similar to what he does on his show, the Colbert Report, but much longer on the topic of Bush, suggesting that the president is out of touch with reality. Aides and reporters, however, said that it did not overshadow Bush's own funny routine, which featured an impersonator who told the audience what Bush was thinking when he spoke dull speech lines.

In fact, some aides crowed over reports that the president easily bested Colbert in the reviews of both comedy acts.

 No - almost all the press coverage I've seen of the event has given good reviews to Dubya's skit, and said something along the lines of Colbert's "wasn't that funny." But the thing is - Colbert's was hilarious. The press is just uncomfortable with the fact that his satire was pointed at them as much as the Pres. And the fact that Colbert had the balls to do it right to his face, despite the shocked responses of the press corps(e). He regurgitated their regurgitation of Bush's talking points and meaningless rhetoric and made them all look like idiots.

So, thanks for starting this thread, Suze! Once again, it falls to people on the Net to get the word out... :D

Well hopefully Steven Colbert won't wind up in a horrible freak accident any time soon

That man truly has a set...

Interesting. Can you tell I don't even check in with the mainstream press? What a bunch of pansies. The performance was incredible and funny as hell. Just ask Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame. Uhoh, I mean, um, Mrs. Wilson!
