Nick Lachey Reveals Split Details

Apparently Jessica left him which I wouldn't have guessed. I figured he ended it because she was a pain in the ass.

NICK LACHEY lived most of his married life to JESSICA SIMPSON in the public eye and on camera. But ever since the announcement last Fall of his break-up with the pop star, he's kept mum. Now, the music-maker is speaking out on the headline-making split.

"I'll tell you how I knew my marriage was over -- I was told," he candidly says in the upcoming issue of Rolling Stone (www.rollingstone.com), on stands Friday.

It was on November 22, 2005, on their way home from the American Music Awards, that Nick says Jessica informed him that she was leaving him, something he admits shocked him. "I never wanted a divorce," he says in the revealing article. "I wanted us to be happy. I guess we differed on strategy."

Nick says after she expressed she wanted a divorce, he asked her to not make any rash decisions. "I basically said, 'Please, let's sleep on it.' But when we woke up the next day, Wednesday morning, she was still sure."

The 31-year-old even broke down in tears throughout the interview, telling the magazine, "I'd marry her all over again because I still love her. It would be a lot easier to walk away if I didn't."

Nick even addressed the reports that they split because Jessica was allegedly unfaithful. "I don't know if there were other men," he admits. "But if she did cheat, it was the result of something bigger, not the reason we didn't work out."

He confesses that he thinks it may have been easier if he had "found her in bed with a guy." "That would be clear cut," he says. "End of story. I wouldn't have to deal with the uncertainty of adultery."

And he also dispels any rumors that Jessica's manager/father JOE had anything to do with their separation.

"It would be easy for me to blame my divorce on him," he says. "That would be convenient. But at the end of the day, Jessica is a grown woman and she made her own decision."

For more on the intriguing interview, watch tonight's ET.

I never thought he ended it with her. I always thought and still think she views him as less successful than she is and she moved on - or some variation thereof. I just remember watching the first couple of shows and realizing how, for the most part, he was relatively down to earth and she was so used to being pampered her whole life and in a bad, blameless kind of way.

I always throught that the Newlyweds show would doom them. I mean, how normal is it to have cameras following you around as you adjust to married life?

I feel that they're in 2 different places in life. She was very early 20's when they married, he was almost 30 I think. He was ready to settle down & maybe she thought she was too. But a few years later, more money, more fame...she got a taste of things she never knew were there before & wanted to do different things.

I guess. Maybe.

When Nick said he was "told" the marriage was over, I assumed he meant by her father.

I find quite ironic that some artistic couples split right after they finished a work of art that told a lot of their relationship:

Scenes from a Marriage - Ingmar Bergman - Liv Ullmann
Husband and Wife - Woody Allen and Mia Farrow
Grand Canyon - Meg and Lawrence Kasdan
(I'm sure there are more)

And now in the reality show era we got these two puppets...

Romy

I realize this wasn't part of an actual post.... but I just HAD to show my love for this jewel of a quote.
God bless Madeline Kahn!

I actually like Nick, as a person and an artist. I don't know what happened b/w them, but for god's sake it had better be serious to leave that man.

...and I'm sure I'll be buying his album.

this is interesting because quite a few things I've read indicated Jessica still isnt over him. And I got the impression she was regretting this split. Holidays make her sad, she's doing the "rebound" thing a la Jennifer Anniston....

At any rate, I didnt realize Jessica left Nick. And if she doesnt regret it now, I think she may regret it in future. just my 2pennies.

Yes, I was just going to say the same thing. She's really going to regret this and perhaps already does.

I'm with you Jazzy, I like Nick and think she's a fool. Watch this album make him huge, wouldn't she just love that? I saw his show on MTV yesterday promoting the album, What's Left of me, and he ends it singing his song Resolution with just a piano in a studio. It was excellent actually. He's got talent.

PS, He's also hot! They should've put him on the cover of RS instead of the caricature of Bush the Dunce.
