Band Face Off - Semifinals 8

It was a landslide victory for The Beatles, surprise, surprise. They join Johnny Cash, Tina Turner, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Led Zeppelin, Joni Mitchell and Tom Petty in the finals.

Btw, you don't have to vote for who made the biggest impact on pop but who you personally prefer listening to.

Onto Round 8

Gotta say its Bowie. I love Elton tho.

jannieC 04-18-2006 05:47 PM

Big Elton John fan here. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road pretty much *is* my childhood.

markolas 04-18-2006 06:03 PM

Elton all the way. Don't really care for the others.

goldie 04-18-2006 06:24 PM

Elton. Without a doubt!

seeker007nmss 04-18-2006 08:29 PM

Sick of Elton (over played) Bowie like some... so leaves Peter

markolas 04-18-2006 08:47 PM

I'm waiting for someone to tell me I'm crazy and stupid for not liking David Bowie...

dissention 04-18-2006 10:12 PM

Bowie.

Elton John blows. Always has. Intentional pun or not, your choice.

Miss Vicky 04-18-2006 10:25 PM

I went with Elton John.

There's just something about Peter Gabriel that has always irritated the hell out of me. I was always the bigger Phil Collins fan anyway. (:p Amber)

David Bowie's good, but I'm much more familiar with Elton's music than with Bowie's.

Oh... and that "Dancing in the Streets" video Bowie did with Mick Jagger is just too creepy for words.

Beautiful.

But yeah.. Elton hasn't made a good record since the 1970s, and does Disney soundtracks. No further explanation required.

I love both Bowie and Peter, so this was hard. Peter Gabriel is synonymous with my childhood, especially "Solsbury Hill." But... I had to go with Bowie, because, well.. he's David Bowie. He's amazing.

wondergirl9847 04-18-2006 10:45 PM

Markolas...

You are crazy and stupid for not liking David Bowie.

I'm kidding. There are 1 or 2 songs by each that are okay, but I don't really care for any of them. Sorry.

I didn't even attempt to vote in this or the Beatles vs. Beach Boys. For the same reason.

But ya, Bowie by a long margin. I love Elton, but he ain't got nothing on Ziggy.

B o w i e.

No questions asked. Hands down. The Smart Choice.

He also gets extra B I G points for:

The Hunger
Labyrinth
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (Where his sheer presence gave me the willies)
The Man Who Fell To Earth

That's actually one of the main reasons I voted for him. His music, I'm the least familiar with. If I had read Trackie's admonition of "favorite, not best" I might have voted for one of the other two. (Elton John pisses me off, but I do like a few of his songs quite a bit. No matter how much I like some of his songs, though, I can never forgive him for Crododile Rock and a few others. Bluck!!!! He almost wins for "Candle in the Wind, live version from Australia", my fave from eighth to 12th grade, but not quite.
Peter Gabriel, I'm even less familiar with his work, but I love, love, what I do know.*Rumble at Phil Collins Hill!!! See you there, Vicky!!!:wavey: *)
But Bowie is just too cool, I just found out last night his wife is way smart, and...okay, it was The Hunger, and his teeth (he has my favorite sexy teeth) that did it. It was mostly the teeth. Plus his obvious contribution to....whatever, a Bowie fan can fill this in. Bisexuality? Gender Neutral Glam Rock? Making me feel slightly icky about Mick Jagger? As previously mentioned, that "Dancing in the Streets" collaberation was ill advised. I'm sure their porn would be better than that video. It would at least have much better rhythm and clothes (none). Tell me I'm wrong.
I have to say, though, one of his songs I really hate. It's one that comes on the radio all the time, but I can't remember now. Oh, right, Changes. I hate that song. But the fact that he has a vast catologue that I've never heard and could be awesome helped sway me. Sure, he's no Stevie Nicks vocally...uh...and that's why I've never heard his catalogue!

Somewhat Shallow, and comfortable with it. :wavey:

Mari 04-19-2006 03:18 AM

at this moment I don't like any of these three much, but I had my very first celeb crush on Bowie, so there.
