California's Family Code being tightened up!
I have really good news about my battle against child molesters: Awhile back, I posted that I was working with CA Senator Battin (the same man who successfully passed SB 33, the Circle of Trust Bill--for info go to www.protect.org) to tighten up CA Family Code 3030 to ensure that any visitation that occurs between child molesters and their own children (I know, I know, it doesnt make sense but CA law requires kids have contact with both parents) MUST be supervised. Many times, Family Court Judges favor the fathers even when evidence shows they have physically or sexually abused family members, and either place the kids with their abusers or allow unfettered access such as unsupervised visits etc.
I think this is wrong. I started working with Senator Battin last year but the bill we had met with so much opposition from the Judges and from the ACLU, that Senator Battin decided that we would wait until this year. I am happy to report that not only does MY new bill (SB 1820) have a real shot at becoming law, but another bill,(AB 2893) which says much the same thing that my old bill last year said, ALSO has a good shot. In a nutshell, between these two bills, if passed, the CA Family Code would now say that (1) Child Molesters who molest their own kids or grandkids MUST have supervised visits. (2) the Court MUST consider valid evidence of abuse as presented in Family Court proceedings when making its determinations. (currently Judges ignore anything that goes against their personal bias, usually anything that shows the father is abusive/molesting) I see this as a real one/two punch against molesters. Im really hopeful these two bills will pass. I'll keep you guys posted if you're interested! |
