Oh Well (LB 1980 Live Version)

Ok so how come no one has ever mentioned this track. I confess i only heard it the other day and it is absolutely brilliant. The raw model one makes it sound much better than the original.
See, he can do cover versions after all.

Before the song starts theres a little two second travis picked riff, kinda like the chain. Can someone tab it for me it would take only 5 mins. I cant figure it out

regards paul

They're ... different. Peter & Danny -- they are fine guitarists. Let's face it: the song is their conception. And concept is underappreciated in this day & age.

P.s. You should listen to some of the live performances of this from c. 1970 (like I think on the "Jumpin' at Shadows" double CD box). It be jammin' too.

I do love the band's performance of this on the Live album, but I've never been able to enjoy it as much as I once did since the first time I heard the performance on Live at the Boston Tea Party, Part Two. This is easily the definitive version of the song for my money. John's bass in particular is absolutely smoking. The whole song is a runaway freight train.

is that live in Boston version the one that's 9 minutes long?

No, I don't believe any incarnation of the band ever played a version of the song that long. "Part 2" of the song was never performed live, to my knowledge.

The "Live in Boston" performance is the one I posted in the Pre-Rumours forum a couple months ago to encourage you to buy the CD!

No...the "9 minute version" is the original studio version from Then Play On

Ok, so you'd think my favorite version would be one that included Peter Green, right? Wrong. It's the live version from 1987 that was on the B-side of the "As Long As You Follow" single...with Billy Burnette on lead vocals & Rick Vito on lead guitar. (and a post-production Dobro overdub on the intro riff)

That's actually my favorite live version, too, but I was afraid I'd get strung up if I admitted that!

:distress: :distress: :distress:

unbelievable, ChiliD. I hate that version so much i can't take it to listen to it for a few seconds.

Although i think lindsey's 80-version is a killer, ripping off a threeguitarpiece at his own, It can't be topped by the BBC and Bostonversions.....

 we disagree so much that it looks like a neurotic spasm....

Well, I did say it's my favorite live version. ;) The studio recording is still my all-time favorite version overall.

My God, Gerald, go to the drug store and buy one of those earwax removal kits. Is Lindsey your own personal version of L.Ron Hubbard? How can you NOT hear how painfully weak Lindsey is at playing "Oh Well"?? It just boggles my mind. Sure, by 1982, he was just STARTING to get the hang of playing it half-way decent. ****, when I was 17, even *I* could play "Oh Well" 100 x's better than Lindsey...and I didn't shy away from Part 2, either.

I'm sorry dude, but my love for his version has nothing to do with playing decent. I hear that. It's the energy and agression that speaks to me. I loved that immediately in 1980 when Live came out. And for your information: THAT was the time I was still hormonical under the influence of Miss Nicks....and not preoccupated by the Buckvirus.

I only know Ray Wylie Hubbard, "screw you I'm from Texas, I'm from Texas
screw you".

How Buckingham can be THAT stoned, yet still have that much angst is just mind boggling...as if he really IS psychotically deranged.

Ya know, I think you can say that about every member of Fleetwood Mac.
