IRS says "Bitches must pay for swag"
So, I heard that the IRS is cracking down on gift bags celebrities receive at functions. Gift bags at this past Oscars reportedly were worth $100,000 and the IRS says the celebs must pay up to $30,000 in taxes. This is, apparently, the first time this has happened and will be enforced from now on. I see it really hurting celeb attendance to Sundance, etc. I am, however, laughing my ass off at the fact that free **** is now taxable ****. Then, they could always donate it to charity and have a deduction on taxes.
What's your take? |
This is my take

 i thought they were gonna tax the cheapstuff!
or is that spelled schwag   |
What's next? A tariff on Christmas gifts?

In theory its hilarious, but that's opening a can of worms...because where does it end? Taxing gifts is pretty invasive. And then what...birthdays gifts? I'm on the fence.
|
Plus these gift bags are full of free trips that the receiver can only redeem, so there's no way they can be transferred to someone else. If the celeb doesn't take the trip, it's just waste. So I'd be upset if I had to pay tax on something that I couldn't use... and I couldn't give away.
I'm sure there's away around not paying aside from the donation thing. |

and shwag is cheap ass weed, but it's also the gift bag. I don't think swag is a word. I'll check. Edit - Oops, I was wrong. I hate that. I've never heard anyone say Swag though. "swag n 1: valuable goods 2: goods or money obtained illegally [syn: loot, booty, pillage, plunder, prize, dirty money] 3: a bundle containing the personal belongings of a swagman v 1: droop, sink, or settle from or as if from pressure or loss of tautness [syn: sag, droop, flag] 2: walk as if unable to control one's movements; "The drunken man staggered into the room" [syn: stagger, reel, keel, lurch, careen] 3: sway heavily or unsteadily" |
Well, if the little people are given a car on Oprah and have to pay taxes on it, why shouldn't celebs pay for these giveaways? $100,000 in gifts is pretty excessive IMO. If they don't want to pay the taxes they can refuse the gifts. I guess the distinction is one is considered winnings and the other a gift. But can't Oprah call the cars gifts so her guests can avoid paying taxes on them? I don't know, I'm kind of on the fence too. Although the liberal in me definitely says, yes, let those spoiled b*tches fork over some cash!

Im against it and I hope somebody sues to stop it. DAMN IRS ANYWAY. Friggin JERKS.
btw: I knew "swag" was a word. you used to hear it in old Pirate movies. however, "schwag" was new to me, I guess because I dont smoke weed. |
