Perth Newspaper Review
Nothing really new here but this is a review from "The West Australian".
Stevie loops the loop. Stevie Nicks;John Farnham WACA Ground Tuesday, February 28 Review:Simon Collins The Gold Dust Woman was not surrounded by her Fleetwood Mac fellas but the famous men in Stevie Nicks' life were well and truly present on a warm and blustery Tuesday evening at the WACA. Seventies Mac classics Dreams and Rhiannon came early in the set, before Nicks sang Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You - a sad ballad penned in 1985 for the Eagles' Joe Walsh after he led her out of a lengthy drug haze. Then there was the fantastic rock duet, Stop Draggin' My Heart Around, with guitarist and band leader Waddy Wachtell stepping into Tom Petty's pointy cowboy boots. The seven-piece band and three backing vocalists (including her sister-in -law) re-created the 70s adult pop classics and 80s hits that made Nicks the top bella donna for a legion of fans. The 57- year-old singer gave full rein to her loopy side, spinning to allow her glittering shawls to flap in the breeze. She dedicated the bittersweet Landslide to "each and every one of you for hanging out since 1973". Nicks' concert climaxed on the psychedelic Edge Of Seventeen, which Destiny's Child notably sampled for their 2001 hit, Bootylicious, before the band returned (with Canadian support act Vanessa Carlton in tow) for a blast through Led Zep's Rock and Roll and the sedate pop theatrics of Beauty and the Beast. To some, he's the Lazarus of Australian pop, to others a bloated cabaret act; there's no arguing that John Farnham commands a dedicated following and gives 'em what they want. For the near 10,000 fans on Tuesday night, the mix of Whispering Jack smash hits, classic covers (including the anachronistic Whitlam's cover No Aphrodisiac) and favourite uncle gags (something about a hedgehog) went down like a cold beer on a warm night. He can't be stopped. |
Thanks for that. I was planning to post that at some point. The only thing that annoyed me with this review was "the sedate pop theatrics of Beauty and the Beast." BATB was one of the highlights! It's not like she could spin around during it to make it less sedate!
